has anyone seen a person solve the cube without looking at its answer first?the thing is most of peoople i know who can solve the cube had already seen a sample or the answer to the puzzle...the essence of the cube is gone if that happens.most of them just want to show off that they could do it...

I learned how to solve a rubics cube by coming to the realization that each piece can only go in one space. Novice people will try to solve one color at a time but the cube must be solved in rows rather than sides. Once it is understood where each piece belongs, there are certain moves that get pieces into certain spaces.

I figured out how to do one layer by myself. I looked at solutions online to figure out the patterns on the rest of the layers. It takes the same moves to move each piece to the correct position on the middle layer. Once two layers are done, the third one is the most difficult to solve. You have to move the pieces without disturbing the cubes that are already in the right places. I don't see how anyone could figure out the last 2 pieces of the cube by themselves. It is a move that is 20 steps long! I practiced until I could remember how to do it by myself. There is a satisfaction in being able to solve the cube quickly. I don't think the "essence" is gone when you can solve the cube. There is still puzzlement and fun when you decide when and where to apply the moves you learn. I can now solve a rubik's cube in less than 3 minutes. I get plenty of pleasure out of this. I had absolutely no fun when I couldn't solve the cube.

I have heared of peoples that can solve such cube really fast, but I never had a pleasure to meet them. Rubics cube is really something awesome, but I don't know if anyone who's not a real genious can solve it without looking at the solution atleast once before.

Even with the answer I can't solve it. Lol. I mean the whole purpose of the cube is just to show that you can do it,. I always end up giving up after 3 minutes. Lol.

I have a friend from school who does this just to relieve stress and carries one her keychain and a regular one in her bag. I don't know where she gets the patience and I have never been able to do it myself. This friend also made outstanding grades in school.

Hi! Its kind of a coincidence that I see this discussion today. Thats because I just bought a keychain one.^_^ Its was so cute with its miniature size and it can be turned and played. I really dont like to play the big one. I prefer a small one where I can play it anytime, anywhere, when I want to and how I want to. I still havent finished the whole cube but I have finished 2 colors. Thats a huge thing for me since I really dont have the normal talent for this kind of puzzles. I do know someone who can finish the whole cube in a matter of minutes. Not exactly in one minute but for me its still fast. I have seen a guy on tv who finished the whole cube without looking at it. He just scrutinized it in a few seconds. He then put it behind his back in he finished the whole cube in a time short of 10 seconds. Like woah! His brain is really advanced that he can memorize the moves in just space of seconds. Now that I have a cube of my own I think maybe Ill try to work on it until im good enough. This way I have discipline, patience, and it will improve my brain power.^_^
