What's that smell? - The smell of wildflowers

Have you ever smelled something that you recognize, but just can't quite place it? Was it a good smell or a bad smell? Have you felt that sense of relief once you were able to place the smell? Here's the story.... I was vacuuming. Wait. There's more. When I vacuum, I like to sprinkle a deodorizing powder on the carpet... I happen to like the "arm and hammer" baking soda brands. Now and then, I'll get a new scent if the mood strikes, and I had such a mood last week. The scent I got is called "Nature's Wildflowers". Sounds nice, doesn't it? I thought so too. Bearing in mind the topic here, I think it's rather obvious that I recognized the smell. I couldn't quite place it at first, but didn't think much of it. It wasn't THAT bad, just, well, DIFFERENT. After I completed the vacuuming, I was sitting down at my laptop on the couch. That's when I realized what the smell was. My living room carpet now smells like scented maxi pads! I guess it wouldn't be too bad if I LIKED that smell... but I don't really like it at all. Needless to say, I will be going shopping for a different scent of the carpet powder.

LMAO!! Not a bad smell but not what you would particularly want in your house. I like the glade brand- country garden or something like that. It smells nice.

I haven't seen anything other than the arm and hammer brand carpet powders in ages. I should take a closer look the next time I'm out shopping for some, just in case there actually is more to choose from.

I wonder if they have the Glade brand in Canada. You guys seem to have a lot of brands that we do here in the US.

We do have lots of glade products, such as the scented oils, plug ins, and aerosol sprays... but I'm not sure about the carpet deodorants.

Hehehe, I don't like any of those scented air or carpet fresheners, they are too sweetly artificial smelling or something. Although when I was a kid I guess I liked them, because I got brought home by the cops once for trying to pilfer a can of Glade - for my treehouse of all places - from the nearby store. I have been using a Hyla water vac for a while now, and I like putting drops of essence oils in the water, which then shoots 'washed' and scented air back out into the room. I prefer ones like 'Gardenia' or 'Orange', but a while back the only thing I had in the house was patchouli oil. I thought that would be kind of exotic smelling. It wasn't. It smelled like sickeningly sweet perfume. But to make matters worse and to stretch them out for a long time to come, I neglected to empty the water out of the vacuum canister thinking that I was going to do more vacuuming and not wanting to waste the expensive patchouli oil, in spite of the fact that mixed in the water it smelt so awful. Anyway, I ended up not doing any more vacuuming, and I forgot all about the vacuum cleaner sitting over in the dark corner full of patchouli scented, hairy, dirty water. The next time I vacuumed, which was like a week later, when I opened up that canister I thought I would have to puke! It was HORRIBLE!! Not only that but the plastic canister had absorbed the odor and every time I vacuumed for like a month that ghastly smell spewed out into the room! I sort of think the maxi pad scent would have been preferable.

But it was for my treehouse, C-Gal, so it would've had to have been trying to get rid of the fresh smell! Hehehe, I don't think I realized what Glade was actually for, I think I was just feeling very domestic in my little 'nest'. I had built it myself. But I was only 8 of 9... I don't think I said a word, just stood there while my mom and the cop pretended that I was going to have to go to jail.

haha.. Yeah, smell is just like recognizing things and forgetting of things to say when it's just inside our mind a couple od seconds ago.. However when u are just about to have the answer, we forget everything.. LOL ^_^ It's a frustrating moment as it's so important to us and at that moment, we will feel ver uncomfortable till the moment we can recall wat izit actually about that comes to our mind.. LOL

Oh no! LOL! I know the smell you are referring to! LOL! Ugh! You're right! It isn't necessarily a bad smell but, any woman who has ever had a scented maxi wouldn't be able to overlook that kind of scent memory! LOL! I hope you find or have found a better scent soon! LOL!

Yeah, women would "get it" more than men. Not a nice smell at all.. not to me. And yes, I will be looking for another scent soon. Today, the house smells of onion and garlic from a roast in the crock pot. So much better than maxi pads, eh? :P

LOL! Yes, onions and garlic are much better than a fresh reminder of the annoyance, and for some, the all out agony we go through once a month! LOL!

I have a couch that has some nasty smells in it that reappear on those muggy days. I would MUCH rather it be a cinamonny spicy kind of scent. lol.

we had a chair thatd stink to high heavens everytime it rained or was muggy.. in blues blues fashion, my daughter used to call it the "thinking chair" but after the first rain, it quickly became known as the "stinkin chair" LOL

That's Uh.....well....uh....... I don't know what that is , but it was funny! My husband used to buy the really Cheap Carpet Deoderizer.....and it didn't smell too Bad , But....I could never go in the room , right after he would spray it , or dump it , or what ever the He!! he did with it. I have horrendous Allergies....and it would make me Sneeze uncontrollably! But the worst smell for me is.....Darn....I just thought of two More. As a former Dry-Cleaner I've adapted to the Smell of Vomit , But.....Spoiled Milk gets me everytime! I'm not really sure why this is....since Both Vomit , and spoiled Milk are similar , but it gags Me!

I can't imagine every getting used to the smell of vomit or spoiled milk. Yuck! One of the last carpet powders I bought was called an "allergen reducer". I'm not sure how that works... but the smell was definitely MUCH better than maxi pads.

Yikes! Lol Yes, I think I would take it out and sprinkle it on the inside of my garbage cans. New carpet deodorizer would be at the top of my grocery list.

I know what you mean. Recognizing a smell and not being able to place it. Or when you recognize a person but can't figure out their name or how you know them. They're equally frustrating to me.

Oh I don't like that either... trying to place a person. That's worse than trying to place a smell.

It's been a few days now, and I have ZERO intention of sprinkling that stuff on my carpet. But you know... it DID cover up the smell of the blood. Why else do you think I had to freshen up the place? I have 3 sons for crying out loud!

I'm not sure that I know what a Maxi Pad is. But I think that I don't have to try too hard to guess what one might be! In the corner of our kitchen, just by the dishwasher you can sometimes catch a whiff that smells like, how can I put this delicately, vomit! I think that a little water has somehow got trapped behind the kick board of the adjacent cabinet and it is quietly stagnating. I have looked and looked and it seems dry. Otherwise, it's the kitchen ghost. Well rather than vomiting it could do something useful like find the cheese grater that we have lost somewhere in there. Hope that you find a more pleasing carpet powder. We've been using "Eau du teenage daughter" for a while. Usually smells OK, but has a nasty habit of eating all the ice cream before I can get to it!

I will find a better powder for sure. I usually get the "pet fresh" scent, even though I have no pets. I figure 3 boys is close enough. Good luck on finding the cheese grater. That vomit ghost sounds awful!
