Do you unplug/ turn off your computer during storms?

I do if it is bad enough. We get a lot of electrical storms around here. That is where the lighning is streaking and it stands a better chance of striking something. There are so many fires because of these storms. So we unplug the computers and the big screen in the living room. Do you continue to surf when its storming? Do you depend soley on your surge protector? Or do you play it safe like I do and take no chances?

I admit i do not always do this, it depends on how bad the storm is. If its going to be a really bad severe type storm with lots of lightning i will turn it off and unplug it until the storm passes. If its not such a bad storm i will usually keep it on. Thats probably not the smartest thing to do but its what i do lol.

I do this too. I figure if its not that big of a deal, I am not going to worry about it.

Yeah if its really bad i'd rather be safe than sorry later. But if it really isn't a bad storm with lots of lightning i don't worry too much.

From time to time there are bad storms that will cut the electricity off but most of the time i try not to be on the computer. Then there has been times when we have had a storm and the electricity when out and when i cut the computer on i had to unplug it for a few seconds and the cut it on again for it to come on. When i had to do that the computer was cut off.

If the lightenting starts getting bad then I do. My computer was struck by lightengin once I lucked out it only took out the power supply and cost about $40 to have fixed. My aunt had lightening strike her house and it wiped out her whole computer!

Wow, that was lucky for you. Your poor aunt. That stinks when that happens. We had a tv catch on fire once. It was quite the deal.

If its my desktop I turn it off. I bought a expensive surge protector for it as I HATE moving out all the furniture to get at the plug ins to unplug it for storms. My laptop I will unplug from the wall but leave connected to the internet and continue whatever I was doing.

I need a laptop. lol. For more reasons than just one. I really need one so that I can travel around and still work. I hate having to stay up late to catch up on everything because of no extra time.

Well, I take my laptop off of charge.. and I leave my wireless router plugged in. I'm downstairs, the router is in the room next to me. If it causes a fire, it goes out straight away. Everything else goes off though.

That seems like a smart idea.

Depending on how bad it is, we unplug certain things. I usually take my laptop off of the charger and either go without until the storm passes, or shut down until the battery is low.

That is the way we do it. I don't have a laptop though unfortunately.
