Does you IT department monitor your every move on the web while you surf? Do they have restrictions? I heard of a company not letting their employee do searches on "Google" that's pitiful. So how does your company compare?

Yes the IT department where I work monitors how much time is spent on the internet. And they block alot of websites n put passwords on them so we cant access. If we somehow figure out the pw and get access u get fired if u do it more than once!

In our company each employee gets a user account and that account has a specific speed to access the internet and the sites one can visit depending upon your experience and seniority level. I am a fresher and so my account net speed is slow and i can only visit limited websites. I am not allowed to visit sites like orkut etc,

I have never worked for a company that doesn't allow its workers to surf the web... when i was still a teacher... we were encourage to use the internet to search for reference materials... or subject matter that would interest students... and with my the current company where i work... well... i am the only one here... so i regulate myself in the use of the internet...

I currently work from home. But the company I used to work for didn't allow surfing. If you were caught, you were fired. I think they didn't want to pay for extra curricular activity.

When I worked for the parent company they filtered and monitored your internet activity, which was such a hassle since purchasing was part of my job and I had to fight with the IT for access to almost every site I needed to go to. Now that I'm at the subsidiary company I am basically the IT department and we have no restrictions on web surfing. If your job is done and you want to surf the web, it's fine with my boss, as long as you answer your phone when it rings or get back to work when something comes up.
