smileys!! how effective are they??

i have been using internet from many many years, but from past 3 to 4 yrs the usage of smileys in internet letters, chatting has increased leaps and bounds . ppl when chatting with me use them a lot but i don see them better than words...so do u think usage of smileys in e mails and chatting is effective?? can it transmit the exact feelings u have for the opposite person??

I think smileys add warmth, character and a lot of fun to words when used in instant messengers, e-mails and discussion sites, such as Mylot. I love to use them and yes, I think they are very effective. I don't know whether they can add ones exact feelings on their own, but added to words, they certainly can. They make me smile at times too.

well said darkwing...u seem to be a very warmth persona nd take happiness in small things in life...very good ,,,every one of us shud learn to be like that..

Oh I love smileys, I think it is very hard when chatting with people on line as you are not face to face to see facial reaaction and I think smileys can do that for us...I have collected Smileys ever since I have been on the net, I have thousands and they make me happy to see their little faces....

hmmm...i think i agree with you...but i think its also imp that the opposite person is also in the same mood as we are then they ll probably relate toa smiley well...

I love smileys and emoticons! I don't think they transit EXACT feelings, but they give the reader a better picture of what the writer is trying to convey.

I think they are just icons that are available so people use them. i dont think there's any particular significane to them.
