you can still make money when the stock market is going down

you can short a stock that you think will go down and when the stock does go down, you profit from it.

What do you mean by short a stock? I don't think I have ever heard that term before. I have switched my investments to some my broker says he really likes for the long term. He's been great at picking winners before so I hope this will work also.
