There are so many rivers all over the world which have been very beneficial to those living near their banks or to the country/countries where they pass through. What are the major rivers of the world which have played important roles or influenced (positively or negatively) the history/economy of the country/countries where they are located and sometimes even the world in general?

I should name one river in Southeast Asia - the Mekong River. This is a huge river and certainly has a very importanat role in the economy of the countries along the river.

That's quite true. Indeed it has contributed a lot to the Vietnam people's livelihood and economy. it is unfortunate that due to the forces of nature it has also caused misfortune recently but this does not detract from the positive effects it has on the country. Thanks for sharing

I think the mississippi river (did I get all the s' and ps corect!?) has played / do play a mojor role. Lots of cargo is sailed on the river every day.
