Diet Slushies

We can go to the moon, invent cars that run on electricity and transfer video images onto a disc. Yet the ever elusive diet slushy remains just out of reach. How great would it be to walk into the store on a hot summer day and emerge with a cold, frosty, slushy that wasn't full of sugar? Frosty heaven, ahhh.

Hmmm... well I can make my own at home in my industrial blender. I typically make them with fresh cut up strawberries, a handful of frozen pineapple, mango, cantelope, and if I have it a few fresh blackberries, raspberries, or blueberries. I'll add some light and fit yogurt and orange juice and blend it. If I don't have the yogurt or it's not sweet enough, I usually add a single size packet of equal or splenda or something similar, or honey works too. I suppose if you want just the flavored syrup and ice they have sugar free ones? I know that coffee places have some sugar free syrups, doesn't mean they are totally calorie free but it certainly does remove the sugar lol! I'm trying to recall if places like Jamba Juice and Juice it Up have diet smoothies/slushies. I think they do, and even Sonic has something now.

I make smoothies using frozen fruit, yogurt and fruit juice for breakfast every day. What I'm talking about are the icee's and slushies like you get in a convenience store. Even Sonic, with their mind boggling variety, doesn't offer a diet slush. I do make something similar to a slush at home with crystal light and ice, but it would be nice to walk into the convenience store on a hot summer day and grab a diet icee or slushy. The search for the ever elusive sugar free icee and slushy continues......

There's a place here that's all about healthy foods and they're really into smoothies and slushies there. I think the name of it is Robek's, and I'm pretty sure it's a chain. Might want to check and see if they've got any locations near you.

Sadly, we don't have a Robeks anywhere near us. While their menu certainly sounds tasty, I didn't see quite what I was looking for. They had tons of smoothies and juices, but no slushies. I though I'd hit paydirt when I saw the word freeze. No such luck though. It was juice mixed with yogurt. The search goes on.

To dream the impossible dream! It would be great to be able to get an icy slushy on a hot summer day and know that you won't get that sugar rush, the face breakouts, or the fur coat on the teeth after you've had one (or two, or three). Somehow, there is nothing that compares to slushies on hot, hot days.

I can taste the frosty goodness of a cherry icee or a blue rasberry slushy as we speak!
