How FAR behind will you go?

catching up - How far behind will you go?

I have accumulated a backlog of unattended email notifications. For the past few days, I can only manage to clear a handful in the few hours I can spare daily. I have tried to clear the backlog from where I left. I also tried to clear from newest to oldest order. Whichever way I do, I find I cannot catch up unless I delete all the notifications blindly. Here, I am only talking about email notifications from my friends' discussions. Friends, how do you manage your email notifications? How far back will you respond to email notifications? How far behind will you go? One day, one week, two weeks, a month? Do you read each and every of the email notifications? Do you simply select a cutoff date and then blindly delete them? Do you turn them off to spare yourself the ardious task of deleting the mails? How do you manage your email notifications? Appreciate your sharing :)

I am there right now. I have been away for at least two weeks - ever since my mom arrived - and I have over 100 email notification waiting for me. I tend to try to answer them all, but reality thought me that it's often impossible. It's a lot of discussions and some email notifications have more than one discussion. Adding the ones that keep coming each day and the task is huge:) In the end I have to just delete a big number if I want to be able to catch up with everything. WHen I do, I try not to even read what the discussion is about or who's posting because if I do I know I will end up trying to answer one more and then another etc. One of the ways I found to manage my email notifications is the choice not to have the notification on for every single person in my friends list. I only keep them on for the friends that I know I always enjoy their discussions and always want to respond to. I still go to the "discussions my friends posted" link and try to answer discussions from friends that have the notifications off, so I have a chance to participate in their discussions as well.

I find checking out "discussions from my friends" a bit slow and I do not have the patience to wait. Anyway, in the end I still manage to convince myself to delete blindly or I will find myself responding one after another. LOL.

The max I have been behind on my emails has been 10 I guess.. I do not get many emails and 9 of those 10 included myLot notifications and one was a myLot digest email.. .. Thats the max that has been, so I had no trouble responding back to them again and commenting again on other who left a comment to my response. I have never had any backlogs and hope that I do not have any.. bourne

Not very well. I haven't been able to cope with the backlog lately because I am not online much in the weekends so I decided to turn off most of my notifications except a few. I fell behind as far as 4 weeks worth and it just got too much and ended up deleting most of them. I have too many other sites to deal with as well.

I can understand the time factor. I ended up deleting them too :(

I am having the same situation as you right now. But I don't delete them. However, I just run through them quicker and my replies are normally shorter. No choice there since time is a constraint.

I am having this same problem now. I was gone from MyLot for a month and a half, first because of a new third shift job, then because of recovering from that loss of sleep after I lost the job. I came back to over 3000 discussions to sort through. My problem is, I don't have a problem with answering older discussions, so I am still working with this backlog, looking through them to see if there are any that I would want to answer. I still have about 2000 discussions to sort through, hopefully I will be through with them before the first week of the month is over.

That's exactly it. I'm getting it down though. As of right now I have about 700 discussion, and 600 of them are backlog. Maybe I will have the folder current by the end of the week.

I go through my email notifications and save the ones that interest me. Most of the time I keep up, but sometimes I do get behind. I do not delete them. I will answer them even if they are a couple of months old. Some I have to delete, as they are directed at something that happened or deals with a certain day.
