Do you know what are the good qualities in turmeric. I know it acts as a antiseptic for cuts and wounds...

It is also WONDERFUL for rheumatoid arthritis, uveitis and other auto immune disorders, because of its anti inflammatory properties.

Turmeric is related to ginger and it has been used for ages for many health reasons. It is a powerful antioxidant, it promotes cardiovascular health, colon health, neurological health. It has possible cancer fighting components (and I've seen studies of curing mice of cancer, I've seen no human studies with this as an adjunct therapy however), and is also used for rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis and other autoimmune disorders. The only side effect that I know of is that it can raise the body temperature if taken in large quantities.

I almost forgot...this is one of the herbs that I use in a herbal healing salve that I make...the stuff is good for everything from dry skin to diaper rash to bug bites to sunburn... and the turmeric makes it a groovy color too. :)

Hi vidhyagowri, I believe Tumeric is closely related to Ginger and has many similar therapeutic benefits. It will thin the blood, for one thing, and is a powerful carcinogenic herb (ie, it strengthens the immune system and helps to kill any cancer cells). One reason I enjoy Curry as much as I do is because I know it includes Tumeric as one of its ingredients. A very healthy herb to have in the diet!
