Gas prices and inflation

So I was watching my local news today and they finally came to a record high of $4.2 a gallon. I may not have a car and drive yet, but damn that is expensive. The sad thing that really got to me was the sudden chill I had as they said because of this increase that all oil-based products are to now go up in price. This drastic inflation is also to be affected by nature's course. Officials runnign the gasoline industry said that in the event of a hurricane or earthquak gas would easily jump to anywhere between $5 and $6 a gallon. I dunno', maybe it's just me, but this is really ecoming a HUGE crisis. Any input or additional information?

Your observations are correct. The entire world is going to experience huge economic problems unless we/they move to alternative sources of power. There are cars that run on gas as well as alternative fuels, coal has been cleaned up and can be used for power production instead of oil, nuclear power should be seriously looked at, too. Just about every developed country in the world is dependent upon the whims of the crooks at OPEC.

I agree. The fact that we don't look into hydrogen power srprises me greatly. Even more sad is that we don't have more involvment with solar energy or perhaps even electric power. However, I don't believe ethanol should be used.

It is becoming a huge crisis. And it's not just about gas and oil based products. It's affecting many other things because it's costing more money in gas to provide services. Food prices are going up, there are gas surcharges on normal delivery or utility services. and then like you said what happens if we experience a disaster of any kind. The weather people are expecting a very active hurricane season so it's definitely possible. A lot of people are going to be really hurting because of this. I know we've had the luxury of cheap gas for a long time and the rest of the world has been dealing with prices even higher than this but...it's too much too soon and I don't think our country is really prepared for it.
