silver arowana is the best fresh water fish u can get for your aquarium. It has been in existence since the jurassic age.Silver arowanas can get rather large(abt 50 inchs)they can be kept together when small but larger specimen are best kept single.i have a 12inch arowana and believe me it has got quite tame it takes food directly from my hand. The best part is that they are not at all fussy about their food habits.I feed it with small fishes, worms, small insects(roaches are it's favourite),chicken, beefheart etc.Arowanas are strictly non-vege's.In the amazon river where they are primarily found they are known to jump out of the water and pick insects and birds sitting on low branches above the river. Some species of arowanas can be very expensive as they are rare agood size chilli red arowana can fetch the owner a price of more than 10k usd.

Yeah I find them quite big for an aquarium fish but many find them even as lucky fish. The Chinese take it as a lucky charm and you would usually see them as part of their business establishment. the price is also quite high for me to afford them. Although many says that it is quite easy to take care of.

I find Arowanas to be a bit big pet fish to have. Although I heard that Chinese like these fish because they say they bring luck unto them. But for me I think it is pretty large fish to keep and maintain. You have to keep them into a big aquarium for them to comfortably swim. I find it pitiful for pet owners who keep the fish in small aquariums and the fish could not barely move around the aquarium because there is just no space for them to move around. I think they also need to move around to exercise their body.

The Asian arowanas are indeed thought to be good luck but because they are so expensive, the farmers and other people will go out and catch as many as they can to sell to the rich people. One arowana will fetch as much money as they usually earn in a year. They are becoming extremely rare in the wild and are illegal to buy in the United States, even the ones grown in farms with chips in them. Yes most arowanas are regal looking fish (when they are taken care of properly) but a lot of people will try to keep the fish in a 55 gallon (or even smaller) tank so that it cannot even turn around. I have a 150 gallon tank that I will be setting up in my fish room (when if finally gets finished) and I intend on keeping Altum angelfish in there because I think that they are one of the most regal fish.
