I was wondering if any of you sell your baked goods on etsy.com? If you do, do you feel like business is good/bad/ok? And where one earth do you get your shipping supplies? I just started selling some baked goods, handmade jewelry and vintage jewelry on Etsy this month. It didn't occur to me that I could be an online baker until I saw it there on Etsy. It's a great idea, baking is like therapy and when you're dieting you sure don't need all that therapy in the house, lol. It's fun to come up with recipes and ideas.

I did one listing on etsy, but it did not sell at all. I have been selling my toffee on eBay since January and I have made a decent amount of money doing so.

I'm surprised it didn't sell. I used to sell on ebay ages ago but not baked goods, I never thought to do so. I won't try ebay again because of the feeds, I really can't afford the extra fees on there if something doesn't sell because they're so high.

I didn't know people sold baked goods on Etsy! Wow. Although, I live in the UK, so I bet there are limited sellers that ship here. Baked goods and sweets do really well on eBay, especially things like cookies, fudge, toffee, and cakes. You have to make sure that you charge enough to cover your costs, postage, and hopefully a small profit, which can be hard to balance with what someone expects to pay. If you have a niche market, ie, you can make elaborate cakes, or make figures etc, then you will probably find that you have a wider market.

I think not a lot of people ship from here to the UK because it's so expensive to ship, more so than the cost of the actual baked goods. Also because of how long it takes to ship, with my baked goods I only ship within the US and Puerto Rico and use Priority Mail so they get them within 2 days for freshness. I might look into shipping globally if I can find faster shipping and then just see if customers abroad are willing to pay for the expedited shipping. I might do that just for large custom orders to make sure the customer gets their money's worth since shipping is likely to be around $20+, I'd hate for someone to pay that much and just get $10 worth of cookies.

No, I don't. I do remmeber at least one seller that did sell baked goods last year and she did very well and then left the site (perhaps to open her own website?) She had over 1,000 sold items when she left. Maybe she made enough to retire... What's your shop name on Etsy, I'll have to stop by and see if you have something yummy for my sweet tooth!

I can't imagine retiring from baking ever! I hope it works out for me because I found what I think is my little niche in life. I plan on taking some Wilton classes this summer and next year enrolling in culinary school to study being a pastry chef. I can't wait until the summer when I can sell things involving chocolate more, like chocolate dipped items. My Etsy name is CraftyGourmetLove, there's a thumbnail widget on my profile here. I have a few sugar cookies up now and will be adding Almond Cresent Cookies and Coconut Bread tomorrow evening/night and maybe some cupcakes too. Depends how much baking I get done. It's been a while since I've really gotten my bake on but I feel inspired again. Hope you find something you like. If not feel free to suggest something, I'm always looking for ideas. Do you have a shop on there?

I hearted you, I love your stuff! Really beautiful pieces. I'll be around there later, I'm taking turns using the oven and we're expecting some out of town guests. But so far I've baked a coconut bread loaf I hope to snap pics of so I can offer it on my shop.

Yes, I'm on Etsy also! CreationsByRobin is my shop name... I'll be on later today, cleaning up my shop a bit, adding some new inventory and relisting a few items. I'll stop by your shop while I'm on.
