Do you like fun shaped cookies?

I was never into sugar cookies, my thing was always the gourmet kind like chocolate dipped almond cresents and of that variety. Since I opened up my shop on Etsy I wanted to feature something fun so I came up with different kind of sugar cookies frosted with royal icing. I have to say that it was a lot of fun to do. I made dollar sign shapes, flaming hearts, heart peace signs, hands holding doves, chocolate pretzels and chocolate kiss drops with chocolate kisses inside. It took all day but it was so much fun. So do you make fun shaped cookies at home? What kinds are your favorite to make and decorate?

The ones with shapes seem to taste better sometimes, lol. Has anyone else noticed this? It's like a fun shaped cookie brings out the flavor more or something. I like when a cookie is partially dipped in chocolate. But my favorite cookie to eat is the really soft black & white cookies.

You're so right! I don't like sugar cookies even though I make them but these last ones I made that were shaped I ate and liked a lot. I love to dip cookies in chocolate! I'm making some tomorrow, almond cresent cookies 1/2 dipped in chocolate to post on my Etsy shop. I haven't tried the black/white ones yet, I'll have to find a recipe.

I have never made shaped cookies before. I am more of a drop cookie person. I have been selling my peanut butter toffee cookies at a local gas station and I recently started listing them on eBay as well.

OMG... can I live in your kitchen? I never would've thought mixing the two into one cookie, wow. I bet they're amazing! I didn't think of selling them at a gas station, I've got 3 on my corner. How did you go about doing that?

That's pretty cool, what a great deal. I wish I could do something like that, it would be interesting. I'm actually thinking of contacting event planners in the area since we don't have too many and seeing if I can work something for events.

I live in a rural area. I was in there one day talking to the owner after dropping some toffee off at the post office and I had some with me. I gave her some toffee to try and she told me that I could put a basket right on the counter and sell it there. I have made 10 different varieties of toffee since then, plus the cookies, and pretzel twists with toffee in the holes and dipped in chocolate and I sell them all up there. I don't have everything at the same time though.

That sounds like fun! I have only heard of Etsy one other time. I haven't been there. If you have your link on your profile page, I'll check it out.

It is a great site and everyone is really friendly on there. You can find all kinds of things on there. It's so changed the way I look at shopping and the things I buy. I'm going to be opening up a seperate shop for the bags and I'll put that one up on my profile when I've got it. For now the other is still up there.

That is cool what you do and your good at it from the picture you displayed of it. I don't make shaped home made cookies at home. I don't have the the cutters for it like you do but if I did I think I would give it a try. The only thing would be haveing the paitence to decorate them as lovely as you do for mine wouldn't come out anywhere near as nice as yours do. I guess practice makes perfect and that you have alot of as I can see. You have given me an idea for something I can try out sometime soon. I hope it may be a fun little home project for me to do.

Thanks so much! What I do when I want a shape and don't have the cookie cutter is I make my own template. I'll blow something up on my laptop screen, trace it onto paper then use the paper to cut out my template from carboard and then wrap the carboard in foil. Then I use a knife hand cut the shape. It takes a bit of work but I love having unique things. There are also people who make cutters for you out of your own design, I'm going to have a few made for me later to speed up the process. It just takes a bit of practice and finding out what methods work best for you as far as decorating goes. There are kits that you can buy to decorate your own cookies with, I'm thinking of offering some on my etsy shop that come with the baked cookies, icings, decorations and instructions. I'm sure you can do the project, just have fun with it and I'm sure you'll come up with great cookies.

I agree with taste, for me desserts have to not just look great but taste amazing too. That can be hard to do given that so many icings taste like total crap but it just takes playing with recipes and getting creative.
