When i reached my 100th post, a star suddenly appeared in my avatar whenever i make a post. It has a number 8 on it. When I hovered it, it said 84/100. And now, it changed to 9 with a new status 86/100. What does this mean? Is this important?

I got my star too when I reached the 100th post, these stars signifies our reputation here in mylot, that means how good we are in responding and starting discussions, making friends, posting stuffs (photos, blogs, etc), when one is new and haven't reached her/his 100th post he/she wouldn't have a star. As to the number and the color of the stars the owners of mylot will be the one to determine where do you fit in. The highest reputation one can get when he/she has a blue star and a 10 rating on it. Aside from stars there are more and more features added to you as you go along. I think mylot does this as a reward system for the mylotters here, in that way we could improve more and do well here in mylot. It's great being here, isn't it ? Happy mylotting to us all.

It would depend on how you are "good" you would be doing as you get along. And by the way, if you noticed that + and - icon just a little lower on the title of the thread, that is one way people will add or minus one's reputation.

Thanks for the explanation about the minus and plus signs, I was wondering what those were for :)

I was just wondering about that star myself, as I saw it for another user. I hope someone answers this question so we will both know :)

I think I figured it out! It's a percentage thing. You are at 86 which rounds up to 90 so the number in the star changed from 8 to 9 :)

What does the percentage mean?

It has something to do with your posts (and replies to others postings) and how good they are I think. I'm sure only the people that run this site know for sure what is "good" and what is not.
