What "failed" cars has your family owned?

By failed, I mean makes & models that are generally frowned or laughed upon years after production. For example, my family had this baby-crap green Vega for a while in the early 80s. It's one of the first cars I remember. It was so awful, the *roof* actually leaked. Vegas was popular for a brief time, then disappeared. In the 1990s, my sister and I shared our collective first car: a Ford Tempo. It wasn't an awful car, but Ford doesn't quite boast about them now, do they? It had an awkward button for a horn, a red thing sticking out of the dash. My girlfriend's mother used to own a Ford Festiva. All 3 cylinders. :) Oh, and she had a Yugo also. When she got rid of it, the car dealer had a raffle and the winner of the raffle got to wreck the Yugo with a sledgehammer! Do tell your stories :)

LOL my dad had a Vega when I was a kid because he wouldn't drive his Chevelle during the winter. It was so bad, it had a hole in the floor and you could actually see the road LMAO! My mom had a Festiva and the door handle snapped off one winter while we were in Chicago. LOL When I took my driving test on this thing the test woman (I have no idea what their title is) was trying to open the door with no handle ! This car started with my uncle and when he moved to England he gave it to my mom, my mom drove it and gave it to my brother and while my brother had it he left his dog in the car for about 30 minutes one day and the dog chewed up the seats. I am currently driving a Liberty and what a hunk of junk this thing is. It has been in the shop so many times that I have lost count, but the service shop at the dealer know my name and ask about the kids when I drop it off LOL. We called Chrysler to see if we could turn in the lease early since it is in the shop more than it is on the road and they said no is there anything else that we can do for you, and I said would you like to buy a piece of shyt Jeep and she said "I know the history and all of the problems your Jeep has, why would I buy it?" LOL

LOL, this post is 3 for 3 on the Vegas being crap. :) Your post made me laugh truly out loud. Thank you :) Too bad about your Liberty, though...I've "known" two Jeep Liberties in my time and they were both good. Makes me think twice about buying one, though.

I am really glad that I made you laugh LOL I forgot to tell you the Ford Fairmont! This will really make you laugh, my biological father gave my mom a Ford Fairmont about 5 years after their divorce because her car broke down. It was really nice of him to do LOL. A few months later my mom is leaving for work at 6am and runs into the house screaming to "call 911" I was sleeping on the couch and woke up and asked why and she said because the car is on fire. She hadn't even started it. LOL We lived a block from the firehouse and the cops showed up first. The cop runs up and has a fire extinguisher pulls the pin and one squirt and it was out LOL. The fire department shows up about 30 minutes later because they got lost and by then the fire was pretty big and they were worried it would blow up. They finally put the fire out and it was later determined that it was an electrical problem.

My first car was a 1973 Chevy Vega which I bought brand new and it turned out to be a piece of crap. By the time I traded it in the engine was warped and it smoked like a chimney.

Sounds about right for a Vega. If you get a chance, check out reruns of "Let's Make a Deal" on Game Show Network, they gave out Vegas like candy. The irony!
