I really don't know how to calculate pregnancy due dates. I really don't understand why it is based on the first day of the last menstruation, the cycle lenght and the lutheal pahse. I've read about it but it seems not getting into my head. It makes me frustrated. Has anyone has a better understanding on this and please englighten me.

That is a funny topic because I agree with you. With my son I got pregnant when I should have been starting my period so they thought I was 2 weeks farther than I was. I knew when I conceived so I had a good idea how far along I was. They get a better idea from the ultrasound. I don't feel that it is an exact science after having 2 kids and going into labor 20 days earlier than they said with my daughter and 12 days early with my son. Neither of my children were small or seemed early.

Mine was similar, although with my current pregnancy, the Dr insisted i was due on August 8th - however, i was about to have my 18 week defect scan & with a date like August 8th - i'd have only been 14 weeks along! Turns out my calculations were right & i was 4 weeks further along than the Dr thought. I dunno about my daughter though, the due date was always around the 13th - 15th of June (2006) & they brought her out by c section on June 6th - even then, she was over cooked & could've come out sooner. I guess it's not as clear cut as some of us think!

I'm just starting to learn this because this lesson wasn't old in school. And it created a lot of problem to newbie mothers.

Really it all depends on when you ovulate for me I ovulate later on that the average of 14 days from first day of last period meaning always I went for scans to be told baby was at least a week behind what going by my last period date was. They say take the first day of your last period and count 40 weeks from there however if you ovulated late or even early then baby will be older or younger depending hence the dating scans its a much better way of know how pregnant you are as apparently all babies are the same size up to 12 weeks its only after this they can be bigger or smaller than "average" x
