no, book will never been replaced, it is simple for me, book dont need electric energy so that we can read it, but if the power is down can you hear or use digital media, for me it is a best combination of books and digital media, you can get information both of it too, so dont just let the books disappear cause you will need it latter.

What is the use of "paper",other than providing knowledge? If we can read and learn the "same thing" from computers with efficiently utilizing resources, why should we NOT? To me,texts on a computer screen and texts inside a book are same.

I know that technology is quickly repalcing alot of old media! One can see how tv is going all digital and 'rabbit ears' on sets will have gone the way of the dinosaur. The idea, on the other hand, that cd/dvd/or other electronic media will replace books is, to me, insane. Books will always be a handy and enjoyable way of sharing and reading stories. Good post though! Something to think about!

I don't think so.Traditional approach of book and paper can't be replaced by Computer CD/DVD etc. There are many advantages are there over books and paper but still it will not be possible.CD/DVD can store more data in less space even it is cheaper than books. but Computer is very much required to use CD/DVD. Everyone can't afford computer in current situation.Book you can read anytime even if Power is not at your home but electricity is very much required to play CD/DVD. we cant read for long time on computer but we can do in books in a single strech we can finish entire book in different different position. we can read book while lying on the bad. So it will take very long time to replace book by CD and DVD.

Well, as society advances, new technology always appears to advance and replace the old. However, I'm a bit taken aback by the thought that books might oneday be an antique way of publishing and go the way of the vinyl record album and what appears to be the demise of the DVD with downloading of music so popular. Comuter stored books is good if you need instant data for your job or hobby, but it seems to me that taking a good book of literature or poetry and enjoying it in a easy chair or out in the park, might just be one wonderful way to spend some quality time alone.

i dont think so. books or paperbacks are still more convenient. i love reading ebooks, and they are wonderful because it is easy to copy quotes and print it out later but sometimes i wish i have a printer book copy so i can read them at the comfort of the bed, or sofa... :D

No!!!! There is nothing like curling up with a real 'page turner'. I don't think anything could replace books. And I enjoy browsing the shelves at the local library, I could get lost in there for hours!

i think books should b used still because it helps the mind be more active instead of staring at a computer the whole time. it helps alot to me. i liked using books because it made me feel like i was doing something. LOL with a computer u type in one word and u have the answer thats not so helpful to me, it doesnt help with everything being given to u that easily. i feel if u work harder to find it you will feel u have succeeded more

No i dont think this is an good idea, when you read books you gain knowledge faster then when you read on computer. there are so many side effects when you work more hours on computers.

It is interesting to note that when computers became widely used it was supposed to save paper - however, everyone prints out copies of things anyway, and we are actually using more paper than ever before! As for books, nothing can ever take the place of holding a lovely new book in your hands and snuggling into bed with it. I can't imagine wanting to read a book sitting at a computer desk for hours and hours ... that would be one of life's biggest pleasures taken away.

I love the oppurtunity of having either as an option. I like the old books and papers. I would really hate for us to lose these.

Totally depends on the situation. When I am studying, I like to have a lot of books by my side so, as you can probably imagine, my work area does get pretty cluttered and it's hard to find space for all the books that I am using! Sometimes I have to leave books open at the relevant pages on the bed, the floor, anywhere! When I was studying programming as a personal persuit, I decided to use digital programming books and resources. What an amazing difference: a lot of room was saved, and was able to manage a greater amount of resources digitally than handling books. However, overal it's best to have books because you can take them on your travels, you can sit up or lie down in bed and read them, and they are easier for children to handle as they begin to venture into the reading world. For studying, it's digital books for me; for everything else, I prefer to have a book in hand!

dvds can never replace books for the following reasons. 1.bookr r portable more than dvds or laptops.u can read them anywhere in any sitting positions. 2.reading books cause less strain to your eyes than reading on pc or laptop.

books shouldn't be replaced. of course computers are more "efficient". you can find almost every book on the internet, but you should also think about how damaging the computer is especially for your eyes. of course computers are also good especially for watching documentaries :P but i don't believe that this is a good reason to replace books.

No, kdhulesia, Books can never replace Dvds / cds. Books are books, in which pages can be turned and read as per our taste and style. We can carry our books wherever we go, and even if there is no electricity, you can read by candle light, which we can never do with Cd's and Dvd's. Any one can say that PC's or laptops can be used fro reading Dvd's and Cds wherever you are. But I find it easier and better to carry a book with me wherever I go. You can just open the pages whenever you want to, you need not have to wait for the PC or the laptop to boot and then get you the pages. If I have something to read it should be easy to open it. While travelling you can read a book but always cannot open your PC to read. The traditional method is the best for me.

Actually I mostly prefer paper things. It makes me feel more comfortable while reading them. I understand that digital way is a great method to share information and we can select those we need in a faster speed. However, I just don't feel quite well when reading them in front of the screen. If I can, I prefer to print them out. Besides, reading books or other paper things can give us a sense of peace. That's what books always offer me. Anyway, I think digital and paper way of sharing information are complement to each other. They make it easier for us to share.

No, no. CDs and DVDs are fine for music and movies; but to replace books with ebooks.... I am in the habit of reading while lying down on a sofa or in bed. Can you imagine me hugging a laptop to sleep?

No, I don't want the books should be replaced completely by computers or DVDs. I can only serve as an alternative way of learning or a complement to books. Not everyone can afford to buy computers and all other expenses that accompanied with it like electricity bills, maintenance, etc. Books would still be a cheaper and practical way of learning that can be utilized even by the poorest in the society through libraries and others.
