If gas prices keep rising what are we going to do?Everyone is going to start having to ride a bicycle to work in The Bahamas. The island I live on gas is now at $6.08 a gallon which is making life pretty difficult for everyone these days. What is the price of gas where you live and how are you managing? After buying food and gas paychecks are gone now, what are we going to do?

If you live in a sub tropical or tropical climate, then you have an option, you can walk or take a bicycle. Even if you live in a moderate climate, where it only snows in December or in part of winter for only a couple of weeks at the most, you are still fine. But what about when it snows and freezes over for four to six months of the year? Then even taking a bus is too expensive, because even though they use diesel, they will raise the price of the fare. Look I live in Manitoba, and they raise bus fares automatically, so people think that their cars are cheaper or they either walk to work or work at home. And no one wants to stay at home all the time. For a time, people will budget and manage, but when it comes that there is nothing left, people will have to sell their homes, move to smaller apartments, and when they can no longer afford that, there is the street and then there will be mass starvation even in the States and Canada unless they discover a cheaper form of alternative energy that does not take land out of food production. But it seems there is no incentive. I blame Al Gore for this.

I understand exactly what you are saying. People are saying "switch to other fuels" or "buy new energy efficient cars", etc. This does not solve the immediate problem of most people. In the U.S., I have heard that gas prices are going to be going down by this fall... most likely associated with the upcoming elections. I don't know by how much, though. Some people have already lost their jobs because they can no longer afford to get to them. Not all jobs are accessible by public transportation! This country is crashing. People are going without electricity so they can get to work. Some are not buying medications they need. And the big oil companies don't care one bit! They are making record-breaking profits at the expense of the majority of Americans. I'm sure this same is true in other countries, as well. Personally, I want to do away with paying them for any form of energy... gas for my car, electricity for my home, etc. I'm hanging clothes outside instead of using the dryer. I'm doing more hand-laundry so I won't use the washer as much. I'm cooking outside on a grill more. I've made a solar oven and use that quite a bit. I'm also heating water outside in the sun for washing dishes. My husband is now working from home as a logistics engineer instead of working in an office. We can't afford the gas anymore. I know there are a lot of people who cannot work from home and I feel for them. I simply do not know how to help them and it makes me so angry! The large energy companies either don't see what's coming, or they don't care. If things continue the way they are, the working-class is going to be wiped out. More and more people will turn to welfare for help. Taxes will have to be raised to offset this. And who will be paying those taxes? The large energy companies, because they'll be the only one's left with jobs! Sorry, I had to vent. It makes me so angry!

Yes the big oil companies are controlling the flow and they are keeping those that offer an alternative source from being expose so that they could stay in power. I hope we researching for alternatives for I know there are. Life will continue to be difficult for as long as these big Oil companies take control of the world from moving on.

ordinary citizens like us have no power over it since we have no control on the price increase, our government should be the one to do an action to stop this economic crisis. i guess the only thing we can do is to pray. and to let the government people hear our cries.

The price of fuels cannot be controlled and will never decrease. The fuel available for consumption is decreasing day by day as more vehicles are coming for the growing population. i think we should reduce the use of non renewable fuels and switch to other renewable sources of energy like electric , solar . electric vehicles with be the right choice. it's only disadvantage is the high initial cost. but considering the current growth of price of gas, it won't be a huge investment.

The situation is very scary in all countries.Everyone is facing the same problem. For my husband its a company vehicle.we do not pay for the gas, the company pays. Its an incentive. When we have to use our own vehicle i dont know how we will manage.

I am thinking that the price of your gas is dear, I am not brilliant at conversing dollars to pounds but my rough working out is giving me a dear price. My hubby uses diesel and the last time we filled up it was £1.29 per gallon, which is approximately $2.60. At the moment we do not use the car much as my hubby has been able to walk to work due to a move within work. Next week he is back at his other place and so will have to use the car again but it cannot be helped.

I've been plagued by the gas prices as well. In my country, gas is a little cheaper than in yours at just a bit over $1 per liter. Still, we are a developing country so it is a hardship for us. Anyway, I figured that saving money by not taking unnecessary trips or carpooling once in a while is not the answer to the oil crisis. Clearly, I need to find a way to make more money. WHy go backward and scrimp when I can go forward and become richer? If I were a billionaire, I wouldn't have to worry about the price of gas forever even if it's at $1000 per liter.

I will start training everyday to be able to run faster. I will also train to be able to run longer. My goal is to reach speeds up to 40 km/hr. LoLs.

There are alternatives to fossil fuel and most of them come from plants. We should start utilizing them now as in now.

I thought it was bad where I live. I couldn't deal with $6.08 a gallon. Here in Georgia its between $3.99 and $4.05 and I'm practically dying each time I go to the pump.

Right now the price of gas is from $3.99 -$4.35 a gallon here in the US. But that is just the beginning of the gas issues. I think that gas is going to keep going up until it reaches $6.00 a gallon. If you are having to pay $6.00 a gallon now just add 2 dollars more to that. Right now it's not really affecting me cause I say home most of the time. But i know that alot of people that have to drive are really feeling the crunch of the high prices. Have a good one.

I don't know if the idea has reached anybody "out there" but a new "thing" here in Canada is the 100-mile Diet. The idea is to only (or mostly) eat food grown and raised within 100 miles of your location - ie eat locally! One day, this may not be a fad or an environmental choice, but a grim necessity. The fuel simply won't exist to transport food everywhere around the world. So, my advice - plant a garden and work close to home!

I know. This is getting out of hand. Gas here isnt nearly as expensive as yours. Its 4 dollars and I only manage it by not having a car. But I often borrow cars and put gas in as a token for my gratitude but at this rate I wont be able to do that soon.

Gas prices are not rising. They seem to be because the value of our dollar is going down. If our companies would stop outsourcing we would have more money in the economy to strengthen the the dollar. So companies like Russel Athletics needs to stop sending factories over seas.

I accept that rise in the price of gas is difficult for common man,No matter how you look at it,our society needs to conecntrate more efforts on either alternative fuelsor more efficent model transportation.some reason may be weak US dollar, depliting supply from aging oil fields, government fuel subsidiesand and us and british econmoies are slippied into recsession and some people says that chinese indians usage.
