Have you ever made your own cheese?

I have always been interested in making cheese, but I've never known how to go about doing it. Have any of you ever made your own home-made cheese, and if so, what kinds? Do you like it better or not as well as store-bought cheese? And finally,how would you suggest I start going about making cheese, or is this something that's going to consume a ton of time and energy and better left to cheese making companies?
