Well we are in the third week of summer and I have started hearing it everyday. "I'm bored" When I was a kid we were all outside going nuts, but my kids are for some reason forever in the house. I kick them off t.v.,computer, and video games because I believe that too much is unhealthy. I sent them outside and found them on the back porch whining after 5 minutes. So I was wondering what other parents do when they hear that sound.

I wish to be a child again. I used to love the summer, no school, afternoon naps, ice cream and all. It sure is great to be kids. My daughter when she wants something to do, I bring out the arts and crafts and work on a project with her. Of course, it only works with younger kids, once they reached 8 yrs old, it is hard. In this case, I invite more kids over and let them play out side in the sprinkler or something. I don't get to hear " I am bored" too much, and I wish I could have that opportunity. You see, I work full time away from home and so My kids are always in some kind of school program they don't have the chance to tell me that. Good luck and enjoy your kids while they are still young. Time flies when you are having fun with the kids. Happy weeekend

Yeah my teenagers look at me like I grew a second head when I bring out craft stuff. I do think I'll be picking up a new sprinkle this weekend. We have super soakers and a good water war will kill at least an hour, plus they sleep so good that night.

Oh yes, even I sleep better when I get in and play with them. It is fun and you finally get a couple hours at night for some tv time or a nice book. Have fun, summer is here.

Yes my little one is often looking to spend time with me and I do spend time with her, but the older 3 are too old and too cool to play with Mom.

I sue to hear the summer whine to, I did what my mom did. Well if you are bored, I have all sorts of things for you to do. This usually ment chores. Now if you wnat to see kids find someting to do real quick, just tell them you have a whole list of chores that need to get done, and if they are bored, well you will be happy to give them a few to do. That was usually all it took to get my kids outside and playing.

My mom did that to me too. I hadn't pulled it on my kids yet, though I really don't know why. I remember it being a great motivator for me.

My kids love their music too but they are always listen to it on youtube because there they can hear all of the stuff they like with out having to buy it or steal it(which I forbid).

I rarely heard that sound. My kids are grown now, but they did have Nintendo and games for the computer. I was the neighborhood "Mom". I was the one where all the kids would come to have fun. We had a "playhouse" (clubhouse for the guys) and a small pool at the time (no room for a big one) and it was enough to let them have fun. I'd let them have water battles with the hose and always provided lots to drink and snacks for everybody. (If I had been smarter, I would have charged their parents to "babysit"!) They also loved to ride their bikes. These days, if the neighborhood kids come over, it's best to have a small sign posted somewhere outside where it is easy to see which says something like "Anyone entering this property agrees that, in case of accident, they or their parents will not sue the property owner." It's a sue me/sue you world and it's better to be safe than sorry. My kids had plenty of friends over all the time. It wasn't hard to get them to play outside. In bad weather, all the kids would come inside to play, but I always set down the rules and regulations of our house so it didnt' get torn apart! LOL

You sound like a really fun mom. I have a few kids that come over but they are either teenagers or 8 year old video game nuts. I have forgotten kids were here before because they don't make a sound just sit and play games. If I turn off the game they go to the next house to play more games. I totally understand the sue bit too. At our old house we built a tree house for the kids and our insurance company had a fit. It was super safe but it was in the tree (duhhh) and they said it was a risk for a lawsuit. What isn't these days right.
