The Dreaded Power Outage!

Ok, I was without power for a day and a half, which meant no computer, and I almost lost my mind...lol!!?? Seriously though it was very hard at first but I finally did something I hadn't done in a while, pulled a book off my neglected bookshelf and started reading by one of those Coleman camp lanters! For the first time in a long time! It's kind of funny when I think about it now, and it also made me think back to when I was a kid in North Carolina and a storm came and the power went out. If this has happened to you too, do you go nuts without your puter (I did grab my laptop first and used it til the battery ran out)? What else do you do, besides leave the house, or if you can't leave the house? What are some of your best ways of coping in this day and age when we're so used to our technical toys. Yeah, also played my DS till the battery ran out of that, then the cell phone......

I enjoy reading, so that's my first reaction when I can't get on the computer. I also knit and play piano and guitar, so I can find ways to while away the time. Of course, I could always clean house or work in the yard or something like that.

I really meant to put what does one do at night..lol! I can find plenty to do in the daytime, but being a night owl who often can't sleep at night was my dilemma..lol! I have no idea how to edit a post or is it even possible? Thanks for your response!

You can't edit a post here at all, unfortunately. I can do most of those things at night - no yard work, of course, but I have plenty of candles and oil lamps so I read, play music, knit, clean out drawers and so on.

I know the feeling of power outages. I went through a few of them myself. There was only one thing I could do and that is to sit outside and talk to your neighbors. The house was too hot to sit in front of a candle and read a book. Some people may not even have neighbors where they live. And of course these power outages I went through were always in the summer. So you then have other problems like food spoiling and can't sleep because it's too hot. O well that's life.:)
