Be selective

King Solomon warned:"To the making of many books there is no end, and much devotion to them is wearisome to the flesh."(Ecclesiastes 12:12) Solomon was not to discourage reading, he was just advising us to be selective.

WOW! Thank-you very much for that gold nugget of truth. I'm going to study up on that for sure. I stopped reading everything I could get my hands on years ago in regards to the way I believed. There is a lot of good stuff out there, but it isn't always good for me to read it. It's better for me to just stick with the bible and let the Holy Spirit reveal what, when, and how He will. Sometimes it is through something I may pick-up in a dentist's office. Thanks again. It is sure appreciated.

Hello, I'm teaching theology at a Christian Seminary, but I strongly recommand my students to read an ample selection of literature. Jesus praid not that we should be taken from the world but that we would be kept from evil. We must be able to confront the worldly wisdom, then they will be more inclined to accept God's word. I always think that God choose Paul because he was prepared to confront the Greek and Romans whith their own philosophy.

Hi paroloza, I think that's the problem I use to have, I was too easily influenced by what everyone else had to say and I wasn't able to hear what God had to say. It's better for me in this case to read the bible and maybe the teachings of one or two writers I have confidence in. Something as delicate a subject as the bible and the need to be lead by the Spirit, I don't know, I am better off not filling my mind with the opinions of others...Do you understand what I'm trying to say? I'm not trying to be obstinate. I just think in my case...now I'm talking about me and my preferences, it's better to limit how much information I take in from other sources when reading and studying the bible.

That definitely was a very wise advice. We should all pay heed to that. Thank you.
