I have an older Inspiron 1150 and it works great. I have been using this laptop for several years now and my only issue was that I had to upgrade my ram as the factory 256 was not sufficent for what I do and now it is 1gig with a 3.33gig processor. Is this your first laptop? How long does your battery last? Some of the older laptops had longer battery life but that caused excessive heat and shorter computer life. So enstead of increasing the durability of the system they lower the battery life, thus increasing the laptop life span. My battery only lasts for between 45 and 80 minutes. Another option is, make sure that your battery is fully inserted. Sometimes you may think that it is all the way in when it is actually out and not making a good connection so you can pull it out and look at the connections for corrosion and if there is corrosion clean them if not reinsert it fully. Have a wonderful day and I hope this helps!

I have a new laptop. It is my first. My battery when i first got it lasted about 2 hours. Now it even work unless I plug my laptop into the wall. It does over heat very quickly though. I have tried the connections and things. Is it possible that there is a default in the battery? Or the charger itself?

With it being not even a year old then it should still be under warentee so you can get ahold of Dell through their website dell.com and explain the situation to them. I talked to a couple of other people about this and they said that they also had to contact dell and dell sent them a pre-paid package sticker to send back to them the battery since if it works with the charger plugged in then power is getting through the charger so chances are that it is the battery that has gone bad. So contact Dell and they can get you a replacement if you are still are under warentee. If you are not still under wartentee then look at pcmall.com, tigerdirect.com, or eBay.com and get a replacement since if you get one from dell.com it is going to be very expensive. Have a great night.

I have a Dell Inspiron I purchased in January. It works fine. Just some friendly advice: You should tell them about it before your year is up.

i Have called dell about it and they say that it is my fault becuse i leave it plugged into electricity and never just let the battery run. Which i tried to argue was on true but they wouldnt listen to me. So now I am unsure of what to do. I thought it should have been covered under warranty but in their opinion its not.

well my dad has an inspiron and that is dam good. i can tell you he has a bettery life of at least 2 and half hours working on excel and that also with mild volume music. and also one of my friend has a latitude and that is better then the inspiron. it has a 3 hours min battery life and that also with music and video. plus there is very little heating problem. i think dell is a very good company to buy and i am planning to buy a dell studio for my next lappy

ahh.. dell, I have heard both good and bad about dell laptops. I had a dell inspiron for a few years and that thing gave me so much trouble. 2 years ago it was to the point that it was unbearable to use that I just used my desktop. Then for christmas I got a brand new Compaq laptop, and I haven't had any problems, at least not any that were really bad!

I dont think that I would buy a new dell computer ever again. THe laptop is a piece of crap it is slow, the keys dont work, the charger doesnt work, i cant get the battery to hold a charge. it is very frustrating while going to school working on papers and having your laptop that is less then a year old shut down

It could be angry because of the way you were treating it. Laptops aren't intended to be plugged in at all times, and if you didn't let it get low in between charging it, then that could also have run the battery down. Worst case, just take the battery out and use the charger on it's own. (That should help it not overheat, if it's a battery issue.) I'd try to arrange getting a new battery. Check to see if the laptop is still under warrantee. Best of luck.

I have a Dell Inspiron 8500. I bought it from my son two years ago and he had used it for 3 years prior to that at his work. It has never given me a minutes' trouble. It still has the same 2 hr battery it had when he bought it. I hardly ever use the battery, though, because I use it in the Den and just hook it up to the electricity. And,if I take it out with me,I do the same. I may take it off the electricity and take it in the computer room sometimes to print off something. We have wireless and the printer has somehow gone astray from my laptop. I'm going to have to have my son check that out one day. My husband changed the set up on the printer, and now I can't pick it up here. I would definitely buy another Dell laptop. We bought our grandson a Toshiba with the works last year for graduation. But we bought his sister a Dell for her graduation this year because she wanted a green one (his is blue) and Dell is the only one we could find. We also got her the green wireless mouse to go with it. And she loves it.
