Most companies/organizations today have computers in their respective offices. Supposed to be, the purpose of having a computer in the office is to make some process or work easier and faster. The question is, how are these computers really used by the company/organization's employees? Well, based on the experience of my teacher... when they were educating top management people about computers/systems etc., one of her student, a CEO of i forgot the company, uses the computer in his office just to play solitaire. Hahaha! How about in your office? how are computers used?

In my office the computer is used about 95% work and 5% personal use. Sometimes though the computer actually makes a job harder and more complicated.

For me, it's around 95% work and 5% personal (emails, files, searching through the network ). As for some of the employees it may even go as 60% work and 40% personal. Since the majority of the work force doesn't have instant messaging as we do, they tend to use their emails to communicate with each other. Some went to the extent of using system notes to chat! That was actually resourceful but definitely a no no. They were caught and reprimanded. Not that much though since it's just in a training environment. But still.. that was unacceptable behavior. Good thing was a policy was made by Human Resources about use of electronic equipments/software for personal use. It went up to 99% work 1% personal.

Personally, my computer at work is used for business purposes 90% of the time and, yes, I surf the web or check my email the other 10% of the time. There are several other employees here and, for the most part, the computers are used mainly for business purposes. We are permitted to play games or surf the web if we don't have anything to do though so our boss doesn't see it as slacking off.
