What do you do with the last of the coffee in the pot at the end of the day?

I was visiting a friend and we were chit-chatting as she was cleaning her kitchen in the evening. I noticed that she took the coffee pot and emptied the remaining coffee (looked to be at least enough to fill one cup, perhaps two) and poured it down the drain and then washed the pot. Hubby and I take that coffee and put it into our mugs and cover it with a napkin. The next morning, we put those cups in the microwave!! We have that as our first cup while the new pot brews. Sometimes there is none left at the end of the day, but if there is I certainly do not waste it! What about you? What do you do with yours?

i don't do it with coffee, but i do it with tea. because the taste of coffee somehow diminishes after it has been brewed already. i put the tea in a mug and put it in the ref. i take it out whenever i want tea and fill it up with freshly boiled water.

I'm like you, I'd never waste it! I take whatever is left over and pour it into a teapot, then in the morning I can reheat a cup in the microwave while I'm waiting for the days coffee to brew. My one daughter used to throw her last dregs away too, and she saw me saving it in a teapot and now does the same. At the price of coffee (along with everything else) it pays to conserve and save. I notice no real difference between that first morning cup, from yesterday, and the new pot today. If you have 2 mugs worth left at the end of the day, that would translate to a whole pot (or more) a week that's been saved. That's almost like getting one free container of coffee every month or so. It does add up!

wow joyful, when you put it that way (a pot a week) it really shows how much waste there is when we throw away what's left at the end of the day! As you said, things are too costly to be throwing out good coffee!

I do not waste it either. We either save it in a thermal mug, or I have even frozen it. I do not like it as well reheated as melted down with cream and sugar.

Oh what a great idea to freeze it! I actually love a mid-afternoon cold coffee-type drink with coffee, milk, flavorings etc. The frozen coffee would be great to use for that!! Thanks for the idea!

About the only time we have any coffee left at the end of the day is on Saturday night when my daughter's boyfriend comes to see her. We live in Alabama and he lives in Mississippi so he has about an hour and a half drive to go home after their date. I usually fix a pot of coffee before he leaves so that he can have some to help him stay awake on his drive home. If there is any left I reheat it the next morning before we go to church so it won't go to waste. I also get a fresh pot brewing.

HI crazynurse, For years, I was not able to drink leftover coffee. I fed it to my houseplants along with water. Then I discovered the thermal coffee brewers caraffe. I just love my coffe brewed and held in these. There is no bitter taste from sitting on the heat plate all day. Any leftover coffee now is added to a cup and kept for morning. I was brought up in the 50s to waste not, want not.

I'm with you. Today coffee costs so much that I don't want to waste any. I would put the coffee in a mug and place it in the microwave oven to heat in the morning. It might need a bit of water - since it might be a bit too strong. For some reason, coffee that sits around like that seems to get that way. :-) But I could have my first cup while the next pot brewed. Nope. I definitely would not waste the coffee.

i and my hubby don't drink coffee... but we drink tea and we always finish it before the end of the day as we can't keep tea until the next day... it is just not good to do that... and we always try to make our tea in small amount so that we won't waste it... we can't afford to waste nowadays especially with the price of everything rising so high... whatever we can save help... take care and have a nice day...

Well I guess I'm wasteful because I throw it out also. There is nothing like a freshly brewed pot of coffee. Saving it just makes it taste stale and very strong to me.

I have never heard of such a thing as left over coffee? How does one do that? My pot always ends up empty?

Coffee maker - No way would I throw it away!! It's good to the last drop!! lol
I'm soooo with you on this crazynurse, that's wasteful! I'd put it in a cup for the next day or leave it there and ready the pot for the next brew however, I'd wash the pot before turning it on so it would be clean. No way would I waste it! It costs too darn much! Some people have more money than they know what to do with.

Usually like this morning I made two coffees one for me and my hubby and we enjoyed it so much this morning and really helps us wake up for the day that lay ahead. However I usually make just enough for two cups so there is not any wastage on our part at all. I love it in the morning and usually that is the only time i will have it, otherwise if we are out and about with friends I may have one on the go too. I don't know if I would have the bit left at the bottom though, sometimes when it is not fresh it can taste very bitter and that I do not like.

I generally try to make only enough coffe for as many people will be drinking it so there won't be any left (to waste) but if there is some left, I pour it into a pitcher and place it in the fridge so I can have the rest as iced coffe the next day.

My husband and I are major coffee lovers, so there is rarely ever any coffee in the pot at the end of the day. If there is, we just leave it there, and heat it up the ext morning. This has never been a problem for us.

I don't have a coffee pot but when I did I didn't like the taste of left over coffee, I had to drink it right away or not at all.

As I only drink iced coffee my pot stays in the refigerator until it is all gone and I make a new one.

I have a stainless steel coffee butler. I dump whats left over and use it the next day. I think people would be shocked to know how much coffee gets threw away at the end of each month. I was raised in the 50's and we were told to eat and drink but waste nothing and it stuck.
