How does stress come about?

STRESS. Stress is not infectious, neither is it genetically passed on. We develope stress from within us. Parhaps if we take awhile to ponder, it is something we manufacture from our thoughts and deeds. Therefore, the poser would be; "How, as an individual, can I manage stress?" With continued stress, other diseases will crop in most definately.

Welcome to myLot! I disagree somewhat with some of your statements. I think stress can be contagious. Have you ever been in a group of people where one person panics at something? The whole group will then usually get very nervous, if not panicky. While stress itself is not genetic, I think our way of reacting to stress can be genetic. What I do agree with is that stress definitely comes from the way we think. For instance, I get very stressed if I see a snake. There are those people however, who have snakes as pets. Snakes, then are not creators of stress, but our attitudes toward them are. I have read in research papers that distress either causes or aggravates illness or disease over 90% of the time.

So the argument is 'you can be infected or contaminated?' which is which? If something can stress me, can I learn how to deal with that. Can I take control and be calm if there was panic?

First, thanks for the BR. There are many stress management techniques, but the really good ones have to be practiced regularly. Then the mind is reprogrammed to react more calmly to stessful situation. It's like preventive health care--taking care of your immune system to avoid catching contagious diseases. Physical exercise amd meditation are two ways to reduce reactions to stress. This was a good discussion, thanks.

Yes stress is created by our own thoughts, and expectations. We set our own pace and our own goals in life. Failures, for example create stress. Once we crecognise that we have stress, we decide to take tackle it and then try and manage it. With this comes other illnesses. These then cause further stress. Vicious cycle ,isnt it ?

clouds` - relaxing time
There are three choices for me to come out with the stress. Sleep if nothings important work to be done, eat chocolate or ice cream is a very delicious one when stress occurs and the last thing is relax. Relaxation is a the best like looking for some best sceneries like nature or going into the beach if you have much time. Sometimes by simply looking at the sky that is full of relaxing clouds is helpful too and YOGA.

Yeah stress can be started from your sub conscience. I think it's your body's way of telling you you either need to slow down or make changes. The only way to manage stress is to step back and reevaluate the situation that you're in.

We can beat stress if we really want to. A positive outlook towards work and in our relationships will surely keep off the stress that may build up once we let go off our defenses. Beating deadlines, fear of losing opportunities, pushing limits are stress provoking causes that make our lives miserable if we allow it. Lets think happy, work diligently, and live healthy. Welcome to myLot Balozi! have a nice one...
