It is like natural that most people will save they file on the My Documents folder, did you do the same like other people did. Did your hard disk have a partition on it like Drive C: and Drive D:, most people don't aware about this matter, just in case if you don't have a partition and you save all your file or you data inside My Documents folder then if the windows cannot start normal cause you have to do formatting you data will be get lost. But if you save it inside the other drive (like D: drive) when you format the C: drive the file on D: drive will not lost. This is pretty useful if you don't have a cd burner or you only have a small capacity usb flash disk.

I made my another entire Drive only for my Downloads. All my downloads from Normal downloads, http, ftp, Torrents, everything will be saved in a separate Drive. I usually save my files in another folder than My Documents since I may not lost any File when I format my system. You may ask I can move my files to another drive when Formatting my system, but I have no space left in my 250 GB hardisk.

No, I don't save my files on My Documents folder. I always have four partitions on my hard disk and I prefer to save my files on the last partition.

well i do that and then it is so easy to do that but one thing which i make sur is that it is not the one which is saved in the c drive or ratrher the os drive. i change the path of my documents to another folder where all my files are stored. in this way i never loose the important files and also they are sacved easily in the my document folders. it is very handy when you are in for games and the saved game files are saved in the my document folders.

Back in the day, when I used Windows, no, I didn't use the My Documents, etc folder. By that point I already had my own directory structure that I used and did not see a reason to change it. Now that I use Ubuntu (Linux) there is a similar thing to the My Documents, I don't use it either, for exactly the same reason.

I partitioned my HD to C, D and E. C: is for Windows systems files, D: is for my programs & E: is where I moved My Documents folder to. So I save all my personal files to My Documents. That way if I have to reinstall Windows, I just reformat drive C: while still retaining all my files.
