Internet & Economy of Price Rises

Do you think that the Internet will play a bigger role in the economy as rising oil and gas prices continue to bite into people's travel habits/commutes? * One way the Internet could play a bigger role is for businesses to have their employees work in virtual satellite office cubicles. That would mean the worker doesn't work in the office compound/building but at home on a PC connected to the office via a computer. * Package delivery from virtual stores means big savings to businesses that have only a website to maintain instead of a physical storefront.

Yes I see many business already taking this route. I think for smaller business it is hard to do because they aren't able to afford hiring people to set up this virtual office but for big business absolutely. As far as saving on packaging, I am pretty sure it is actually more economical to ship in large quantities and the gas people don't have to burn to go to the store is made up for by the shipping truck having to go to their house (although that would vary based upon how far away the nearest store is).

Micro-business is taking this rout with the assistance of larger umbrella businesses like Yahoo.com and Amazon.com. Other assistance companies like Staples and Microsoft Office have cut the cost of going high tech for little squirts. eBay is crowded with tiny businesses. They fill nitch markets, such as custom ball caps or rattle snake jelly beans. There are a lot of Mom&Pop's hiding in the Web working out of back bedrooms amongst the spam scamsters. * http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/

The internet has already played a major role in the economy and will continue to do so. Yes the examples that you have given are very appropriate. The internet also becomes a very important means of sharing information with people in ways and means of reducing their dependency on oil based energy sources. People wanting to use other non conventional enegy sources will use the internet to get the required information and share it with others
