What kind of pets do you have and where did you get them from? Did you buy them from a breeder or a pet store? Or did you adopt them from a shelter or rescue group? Or did your pets find you? Or did you get your pet from someone you know? Where do you think the best place to get pets from is and why?

I got both of my 6 month old grey tiger stripped kittens from the humane shelter. I felt like I was saving them. i hate seeing animals locked up in a cage they looked so sad. Now they have the run of the house!

Husband and I adopted a 4 month old kitten from the animal shelter. I believe that's the best place to get an animal, because you can get what you're looking for at a reasonable price then you would from a breeder and they would already be caught up on their shots.

My dog i got from a breader, one cat from the shelter and the other two where abandond by there mommy under my mom's front stoop. I had to hand feed them with a bottle and special food i got from the vet. Every two hours, those where long nights. I would never by a dog, cat or bird from a pet store. You don't know where there from or there history(as in puppy mills) I would rather buy from a breader where i can see the parents and the home they where raised in or from the pound as they have been checked over by vets before being adopted out.

Got my dog from epups.com. Lovely dog, we had to pay a pilot to retrieve her from the airport and fly her all the way back. It was worth it.

I have four long hair Chihuahuas and got them all from pet shops...I don't like Pit Bull because they are not reliable and stable...breeders may sell dogs cheaper than the pet shops...shelter dogs are also Okay as long as they are the type you like...

I currently have 7 cats. Three of them came from a shelter and are littermates. (I tell people that this is what happens when 3 people go to the shelter together looking for one kitten. LOL) One cat was found by my daughter as a stray in a park. One I got as a kitten from a person who was giving her away. One was a stray kitten that was given to my vet's office and he was in a cage there looking for a home when I brought in another cat for an exam. My most recent addition was actually originally obtained by a woman in my daughter's apartment complex, but her boyfriend threw him out of the apartment calling him a freak because he is a polydactyl. My daughter saw it happen and took him back to her apartment. The woman then gave her the info from the rescue group about him. And that is how he ended up with me. He ia a great cat. I think that, especially with cats for which there is not much difference in size, etc. a shelter or other rescue group or some other means like that is the best way to get a cat. I don't think we should buy them from pet stores because I don't think we should support back yard breeders and that is often where pet stores get them from.

I got my first dog, Secret, from a professional breeder. I got my second dog, Magic, from a novice breeder. I think that both my dogs are lovely and that I am lucky to have them. I look after my mum's parrot. He used to belong to my mum's friend but when she moved back to the USA she gave my mum the parrot and four rabbits. So the parrot is more than twenty years old now. I think that is is good to get pets from breeders and even better to get pets from charities that care for homeless animals. If a person buys a pet from a pet shop then the animals there should be really well cared for. When I was a teenager my sister bought two ducks from a pet shop. She made them a safe area in our garden, put in a pond and at night kept them in a shed.

I love dog. I always get it from my father, he also love dog. When I was young about 5 years old, one time I was crying( I forget why crying), my father lead a small dog in front of me, I smile instantly, and play with the dog. I can remember my home was raise many kind of dog, and I have a very good time with them. But now, I don't have my own house, so I can't raise dog. I don't know whether I will have one when I get my own house, because I 'm a little lazy to get a dog, because I should bath them, and make food to them.

I have quite a few pets. As you can see in my photo, I have five dogs and I got them as follows: l to r Shiloh-I adopted her from an Australian Rescue group when she was 1 year old. The rescue had picked her up after neighbors had complaimed about her being left outside, on a chain, all the time with no food or water. She is in a very much better place now Fritz-My ex-husband had Fritz along with his brother, Buster. When it was time for their first year shots, he and his new wife decided to take them to the shelter and give them up. The had been kept constantly in a cage, except for being let out for their duties which wasn't often enough) because they had an older dog that didn't like the pups. My son called me and told me what was going on and I went and picked them up. They were covered with urine, feces and their hair was terribly matted. I felt so sorry for them. I called a friend of mine and she came over and helped me bathe them. Fritz was great being able to run around the house but Buster posed a little bit of a problem. He tended to relieve himself everywhere and chew up stuff and it was alot for me to handle. After about 2 weeks, (I worked at a pet store then) I found a nice man who adopted him from me. Now Fritz is my velcro dog and is always by my side and Buster is doing fine. Shelby-We adopted her from a no kill shelter. She and her fellow pup siblings were left in a basket on the step of the shelter, covered in feces and urine. She's the head of our dog household, probably because she was the first to move in. Rocky-He is the only one that we actually bought from a pet store. After my hubby saw how my other schnauzer was so close to me, we decided he needed a velcro dog too. The pet store girl where I had previously worked had called me and said they got in 2 mini schnauzers and I needed to come look at them. LOL Well Rocky kissed me first and we brought him home. Midnight-My hubby used to be a trucker and met a lady at a truckstop that didn't have any money, was living in her car with Midnight and another dog and her kids. Midnight was just a puppy and Brian fell in love with her so he bought her and put her on the truck with him. I'll never forget the night Brian called home and said he had a surprise for me. The next thing I heard was a little bark and I knew exactly what he had. LOL I feel the best place to get pets from is a shelter. There are so many pets that have been abused or not wanted and need homes badly. I know alot of people want pure breed dogs but you can sometimes find those at the shelter too and especially thru rescue groups. My dogs are special to me and are part of our family. I couldn't live without them. Have a great weekend! Char :-)

My husband and I prefer cats, which we get from our local animal shelter. We've been very happy with animals gotten from the shelter. None have caused us any unusual expense. I have two friends who prefer poodle dogs and get them from a rescue group. Friend number one had trouble socializing one of her two dogs but was successful, and all is fine. Friend number two also got two dogs but not at the same time. Each remained very timid and cost her big bucks in vet bills. Should anything happen to our cat, I'll get another one from the local animal shelter. They have a vet check out each animal and certify that it is healthy before they permit it to be adopted.

Shelter... and one "found" me. There are ENOUGH pets in shelters who need homes... and unless you are breeding for WORK or SHOW, there is really no GOOD reason (in MY eyes) to breed them. I know that Pet Smart offers space in their stores for shelter animals for adoption. They don't make any money... any fees are "shelter" fees only. I LIKE that idea!

The best place to get your pets is from a no-kill shelter. My daughter volunteers for one and the pets are well-cared for while waiting for their new home. Having said that, I searched and searched for a dog there, but was unable to adopt for my own needs so I got both my dogs from a breeder representative. This person was able to get their dogs from reputable breeders and not puppy mills which is probably the worst place to get a dog. So many of the rescued dogs in no-kill shelters have come directly from puppy mills and are usually sick and poorly socialized when they come in.

We adopted our dog from the Humane Society. I think it is the best place. So many there to choose from. And they make sure they go to good homes.

i have a black cat called nemo he is 3 years old and we have had him for around 6 weeks now we got him from our local cats protection shelter and altho he cost quite a bit of money i would rather have it that way, i know he is fully vet checked and vaccinated and i also like to give a mature animal a home rather than getting pets from kittens / puppies

I have 3 cats and one dog (see my pics in my profile) and I adopted all 3 cats from my vets office and my dog was a gift but his original owner did get him from a breeder however, I don't like breeders at ALL because most of them do their breeding in puppy mills. YOU WANNA TALK ABOUT ANIMAL CRUELTY? Those places break my heart.

We have 3 cats...one male 15 yrs. old named Mystyc. He is Polydactyl. I found him as a kitten when I was visiting my parents home. After a little pleading, my hubby said that if I found him again, I could have him. Needless to say, he was home the next day. My 2 girls are just over a year old. They were born behind my neighbor's garage. I knew I would eventually get them. They took longer to get comfortable around us but they are now very loving and affectionate. The girls names are Squirt and Maggie Mae. They are all neutered/spayed and the girls are front declawed and the male is fully declawed due to the extra toes. I would love to see more people get their animals from shelters and/or rescues. There are some many good animals being destroyed because people don't adopt from the shelters.
