If a friend comes to visit me,I wouldn't like him/her to take off their shoes. The reason is very simple, that would be impolite.

I live at home and my parents don't ask people to take of their shoes, so I can't argue about that. When I move out I would definatly want people to take of their shoes as it keeps your carpet a lot nicer for a longer time, it's more homelike and won't get all the streetdirt inside either. Your shoes will also stay nicer if you only wear them outside as you will make less hours walking on them. And personally I like the snuggly fit of a pair of slippers around the house or just your socks.

I would definitely like them to take their shoes off, atleast once they get inside. When I'm in the house I don't wear shoes unless I am about to go out. At my old house my friend would come to visit and she wore big shoes, like heels and boots and stuff. But she rarely took her shoes off, for a while I had her take them off, mostly because my dad would complain to ME after she left because he thought she messed up the floors with her shoes. So yea, I think it is probably a common courtesy, but I'd say in the past I have been more concerned with keeping my dad from getting mad. I'm usually indifferent when it comes to a lot of things.

I surely don't mind her/him go into my house wearing shoes.Because i think i should be polite and honorable to my genuine friend. And i think never mind entering my house with shoes.I always enter my house with my shoes too.If i really want my house to keep tidy,i will clean it myself after my friends leave. Have a good dsy.

My mum used to make anyone coming into our house either take off their shoes or wear 'shoe covers'. I bet when I get new carpets I will do the same especially if they are cream!!

Down here in south Florida we don't always wear shoes so taking them off isn't an option. We also have a lot of sand so I don't worry about anyone's shoes being dirty...unless someone comes over who has just been *muddin* on a four wheeler, which is what happened yesterday evening right before it got dark. My step-son and his friends had parked their trucks and trailers in our driveway while they went out in the cane fields to play in the mud on these four wheel monsters. The four of them were covered from head to toe in mud when they returned so they weren't allowed in the house at all until after they rinsed off with the garden hose. After that I gave them towels so they could dry off a little bit before going inside to change clothes.

At my mothers house they have to take off their shoes, but if its at my dads they can keep their shoes on unless they are dirty.
