I prefer dogs.My boys had cats when they were young. They were little brother cats. They were very cute. But,one of them liked to use my laundry basket rather then the litter box!.They scratched up my furniture too.One would come sit with me the other wasn't very friendly. With dogs, yes I have to walk them, but don't have to change the litter box or wash my laundry 5 times! They are good to let you know if there is a prowler or someone at the door.Iam deaf in one ear and sometimes do not hear everything.Which do you prefer a cat or a dog?

This will be an ongoing battle from down through history until the end of time. There are those who love cats and those who love dogs. I adore animals, and I can even tolerate cats but sometimes I abhor them. I am definitely a "dog" person. I talk to dogs when I can get close enough. Even if I am walking or driving somewhere and there is an unfriendly dog that barks and snarls, I usually tell these dogs that I am not afraid and they just think they are tough. I am not a fan of small yappy dogs. I often say to my kids if I see one, "Oh look, it's trying to be a dog!" My neighbors have a pomeranian and a chihuahua that make great watch dogs, but when I go there and they come to the door and bark at my feet, I look and bark back and sarcastically tell them how frightened I am. As for cats, well kittens are cute. But they grow up to be cats. Cats generally smell, eat smelly food, and litter boxes are THE WORST. My husband has two cats and I have one that talked me into bringing it home when it was a kitten. My baby kitty (now a full grown male) thinks I love cats, but really I just love him. Ok, to be fair, I know dogs have a smell too, but I don't personally find it as offensive as cat odor. Also, dogs don't insist on canned food like my husband's cats do. They are so spoiled, and that means my house reeks of canned cat food, which to me is far worse than the stink of a skunk.

But, you do have to clean out the litter box or laundry basket also in my case.

my dog saber - saber
I prefer dogs. Cats don't really need you like a dog does.. dogs are more of a buddy where as cats are like a pet.. if the makes sense lol they are both pets but like a dog to a lot of people is/can be something SO much more and there are probably people who feel that way about their cat but its not as common as dogs. I also like dogs more because i can feel safe. I know my dog will protect me and i don't think a cat could do that lol is less maybe it was super kitty! I like cats but i prefer having a dog.

When I was growing up we had outside cats that we were able to tame some and my sister and I played dress up with them. But,those 2 cats my son's had were a pain.Plus,I have been to friends house's that have indoor cats and the jump on the counters and table around the food.YUK! and they are having knick knacks broken because the are knocked over by the cat.

I like cats and dogs, but prefer to only have a cat. They are much easier to take care of. I don't have to walk my cat! She has a litter box and she also lets me know when she wants to go outside. My cat prefers to be outside more than inside since it is summer. I live in a small town and there is a dog leash law. Dogs have to be tied up. You don't have to worry about letting the cat out. There is no cat leash law after all. Although I do wonder sometimes if there should be.

I am defi a dog person...cats are Okay...but they don't play with you much..make me feel cold...Dogs are also mosr clever and trainable....if you don't believe it, try to train your cat to "sit" and "Roll over"...

I believe you.I have had the big difficulty of training those cats not to use my laundry basket as a litter box.It was easier to train the dogs I've had.

Definitely dogs. I find them to be more trustworthy, way smarter, and much better company. I dont like cats at all, I feel like you can never trust them since they tend to take revenge for many things. By the way do you know that dogs are the only animals that smile? ;-)

I would choose dogs over cats in any given lifetime! We've taken care of dogs since we were children. Although they have a shorter life span than we humans do, we continue to find affection for our pet dogs. They are not only loyal but also good and playful companions who know how to understand human behavior. Cats on the other hand only breed and breed and leave scratches on out cars. :(

I love dogs a lot but am more of a cat person. They are so independent and their antics are so entertaining. My cats are so loving and yet, I am a bit of their personal assistant, lol. I don't mind the litter box, but when we had dogs, they were trained to go in the yard, so we had to clean that up, too. It's six of one, half a dozen of the other. LOL With cats, we can go away for a week, leave them extra dry cat food, a few extra litter boxes, and leave many bowls of water (and the toilet open in case they run out) and not worry about them. With a dog, we can't go away anywhere without arranging their care and they get weird when we were gone long. They would act like we abandoned them when we returned, lol. I do agree they are good with letting you know about strangers and are protective. If I did not travel so much, I would get another dog. I miss my dog, who passed away 5 years ago. She was the best.

I used to be a dog lover but I've definitely turned into a cat lover now. I have two at the moment and they're pretty independent and well trained. No peeing or pooing in my laundry basket, though they have scratched my furniture to bits. But it's all worth the endless purring and cuddles i get. :)

cats, hands down. and i tell you why... i dont want to have to clean up after dogs.. clean up the yard, walk them and waht have you.. cats at least are cleaner and bury their stuff. but honestly i would rather have a 5 foot long lizard as my protector than anything!!!;-)

I prefer dogs. They are usually more loving than cats are. I have four of them. Recently a cat has come to our house. I feed it and pick it up to pet it when it will let me. Cats tend to be a little bit more stand offish to me than dogs are.

I have 4 cats currently, but we plan on getting a dog later in the year after I start my new job in the next few weeks. I have not had a dog in a long time so I am looking forward to it.

I can't say which I prefer, I love them both. I have 5 dogs and 3 cats, although at one time I had 13 cats! Of course my cats are outside but I used to have 2 cats in the house when my husband and I first moved in together. It is not fun to have them in the house. After those first 2 being in the house and we moved to our home now, hubby said no more cats in the house and I agreed with him. I have 2 dogs inside and the other 3 outside. They are great dogs and I love them all. My 3 cats outside would much rather be out there anyway. I brought one in 1 time just to see what she would do and she scratched the crap out of me until I let her back out. Cats are happier outside to roam free, even though they do go on the road and some have been killed that way, I still prefer them outside. I hate the fact that they have been going on the road and some have been hit by cars but cats are naturally curious and natural born hunters and it is in their nature to roam free. You can go on my profile and see a few pictures I have of my dogs. I don't have a picture of two newest yet but will as soon as I can borrow my niece's digital camera. I will also soon have pictures of my cats when I get her camera, if she let's me borrow it. :)

I love dogs. I do like cats, but do not love them except when they are kittens. Dogs wag their tail when they see you, dogs bark when someone comes to the door. Dogs always want to be around you. Dogs are friendly - yes even the German Shepherd in our neighborhood who growls is always wagging its tail. Cats are aloof, and think they own the place.

I have had several dogs and one cat. I don't have any pets now but I still like both dogs and cats. I used to enjoy the companionship of a dog and having one did make me feel safer at home and when I was out walking. I still think cats are cool, I like them because they are so different in character. When I see one in the street I can talk to it. Some cats will respond and come up to me to be stroked, while others will run or walk away. Dogs can friendly or fierce too but I don't see any without their owners and it depends on whether the owner is a good one or not. I don't like dogs jumping up at me when I'm out walking.
