My birthday isn't until september but my very birthday gift arrived today. A double guinea hutch. Hubby has put it together and i just need to put it in place in the garden. I ready have a hutch with two tri coloured males in it. This single hutch I am going to put on top of the double hutch and use it as the nursery!! I am now on the look out for my two females. I am looking for fluffy ones, Assyassaian I think they are called (excuse my spelling!!) Does anyone know any good books I can buy? Anyone already breed guinea pigs and willing to pass on any good tips and advice? Anyone in England know any clubs I can join as I may want to show some guinea pigs?? Lastly what have you named your guinea pigs?? Thanking you Anne18

As far as I know, there still aren't really any good guinea pig books. I do however, have a website to recommend. Check out www.guinealynx.info as they have the best care info I've found on the net. And before you decide to breed, have a look at www.cavyspirit.com and check out their page on breeding. I foster guinea pigs and have fostered a few that came to me pregnant from the animal shelter. Breeding is very stressful as so many things can go wrong. I wouldn't recommend it. I know you guys don't have the overpopulation problem that we have in the US, but I still wouldn't recommend it.

Thank you for your advice and concern but I do know where I can sell my guinea pigs and I know people who wil buy them as well. I have thought about this a lot so haven't gone into it lighty and I know it will not make me a rich lady. I do have some information that i have read and have chatted to the pet shop man, just wanted to know what other information people had and advice they could pass on. Perhaps we could stay in touch via p.m and help each other out. I would like that very much. Anne18

I never would have thought that people would breed guinea pigs. What are the benefits of doing this? Are there better breeds of them? I didn't know that was possible. o_o

Well there would be no guinea pigs if no one bred them!!!! Thats why people breed them, think of all them unhappy children if there were no guinea pigs for them to have as pets.
