What Inspires You?

I am sitting here looking at all types of art, wondering, "What inspires these people?" To me, art can be anything, music, poetry, paintings, sketches, jewelry, even clothing. Whatever it is that catches my eye, anything that is creative, personal and speaks to me on some level, is art. My inspiration comes from many sources. My jewelry is inspired by other people, clothing, even some of my doodles. My doodles are inspired by my inner thoughts, feelings that I don't really want to talk out loud about, inner demons(which I don't have many of these days). So, I would like to know, what inspires you, as an artist? Is it something you were taught to do or, is it just something that comes naturally to you?

I'm not an artist, but when it comes to inspiration for whatever it is I am doing, I look to my lover. Just to see her smile at me, gives me alot of ambition and inspiration.

What inspires me. Is music and the people around me. I will just get wonderful ideas to do at random. I would say that I am an artist for sure.

my surroundings inspire me...reading novels and books, watching tv and movies, flipping through magazines, check out other artists' work, people watching, chatting with others, internet surfing, or just plain living, experiencing and learning...

Isn't life a great source of inspiration? It is just everywhere, if you look.

Inspiration can come from anything really, I often write about things that nobody else would relate to, so those things remain private. People can motivate rather than inspire me, music lyrics are often a form of inspiration, but when a song stays in my head I need to be careful it doesn't take my thoughts away. Gods creations, like waterfalls, and natural wonders are more astonishing than motivational or inspiring, yet if given enough thought, well, i'm sure i'm getting inspiration. I try to write about experiences that have positives and negatives, bitterness can only harm your works rather than form them. Art in paint form is just not something that appeals to me, nor sculptures for that matter, but thats my ignorance, and brought about by how I interpret things. Poetry inspires I guess, but a writer really needs to find his own subject matter, and poetry I think can cloud your judgement. It probably comes back to the same old thing...opinions!

Hey, Aussie. Thanks for your response. When I wrote, I never even saved mine to go back and look at it. Sometimes, I wish I had. I used to go to poetry.com and just write them there. Those poems are long gone and, I don't have written copies of them. I am interested in some of the things you said. What do you mean by "when a song stays in my head, I need to be careful it doesn't take my thoughts away." You mean like, maybe the idea is not your own but, that of the song writer's? And, how do you think poetry clouds your judgement? I am just curious. And, I agree, I think most of us go through good things and bad things and documenting them in our own art form is a good thing, really. It conveys to the world that this was my happy time, this was a bad time for me, etc. It is sharing yourself with others without actually letting out all our secrets. Just conveying the idea. Thanks, again and, have a great day.

morning!!...yes, your spot on, it is difficult to write about certain things when a song is playing in your head, especially when it's about the same or similar experience/s. I remember at high school getting a lecture after using 2 words from a famous poet in a writing of my own. Learnt a fair bit that day, but the one thing I recall the most is my teacher giving me an 'F', and then explaining why. We moved house many times during my childhood, therefore a lot of things I wrote were lost, and, even thrown out during the course of shifting. I have many pieces of paper towel, foolscap and pages from different notebooks with scrawlings from days past. These days I don't do a lot of writing, but still have the desire to do a scriptwriting course....who knows? Without a doubt, writing gives me a freedom other things cannot, although music takes me 'away', it's someone elses creation. To me, it can be challenging, frustrating, and even stressful when things sit unfinished for long periods of time. At the same time, it can be a real buzz, even to the point of bringing out an emotional side that was not evident at the time the event occured. Funny thing is, when you sometimes sgare innermost secrets with others, they have no idea, that just interpret something and give an opinion. Thanks for taking the time to respond......cheers!!

Opinions, that is a big thing for you, isn't it? Everyone has their opinions and interpretations of just about everything around us. I don't think any of us see things the exact same way. That is what makes our work unique. Each artist, regardless of preferred medium, on the artist list here, could be given the same subject to write about, paint, sketch, whatever and each of us would come up with something completely different. If we all showed our finished pieces to each other, we would just get a different perspective on the subject given. Art is just that, our opinions and our interpretations of things. Would it bother you if your works were interpreted differently than what you had intended when you wrote? And, I am just asking these questions for the sake of conversation, not as a slam against the things you have said here. I just wanted to clarify that because as I read back over my comment, it almost sounds like I am starting an arguement. I am just interested in your point of view. I find the things you have said make me stop and think a little differently about some things.

What inspires me? I am inspired and motivated by various things. It maybe an observation, an event, a kind word, an encouraging person or something beautiful. I love to write too and sometimes the inspiration just pops up in unique ways. And when it does, I have to write down the words that crowd my head. Inspiration happens unexpectedly so if you're an artist you should be ready to cope up with these abrupt situations. Sometimes, it takes the long process too, a thought germinates for days in my mind until such time that it "grows" and turns into something that could I should write

This is true, Jenaisle. I do my best work when it hits me unexpectedly. The thought may be there in the back of my mind for a very long time, but, I just can't quite see it clearly enough for it to happen. Then, one day, a big AHAAA! hits me, and something beautiful is born.

Here lately I have been inspired to do anything. I used to draw, paint, and write all the time but it seems I would only be inspired to do those things when I was at my lowest. Its kind of like I am only inspired when I need to be. I used to love to do those things when I was down because it was therapeutic but now I miss being inspired even though its great to be at a very happy stage in my life. I don't know.... and sometimes I try to force myself to write or draw and its just so forced that it is meaningless.

Some times, we just have to clear our minds, pick up a pen, pencil, brush, whatever and just let it go. I do know what you mean though. I used to write poetry, but it was dark and kind of scarey when I went back and read it. I kind of wondered where it came from, and was I really feeling that way? You are a good artist and, you should find a way to put your talent into happy works. Just don't think about it when you are doing it. Let it take you over and do what it wants. I, too, think that inspiration comes when it is needed most. You will find your inspiration if you just let it come to you. You can't force it.

I too like to use art as a way to express myself when words will not come out right what inspires me? often times it is music- most of the digital paintings I create are inspired one way or another by music I listen to music all the time and constantly have songs playing in my head sometimes i get inspiration from other artists and combine that inspiration with the music that plays in my head and then I just create

most of the time, when i want to draw, it depends on my mood, and the intense of my emotion or how do i feel for that particular time.. and i observed that most of my works were done when im in the extent of happiness, sadness, and anger.. negative moods seem to slipped away after my artwork, it seems that ive contained it in my drawing.. and happy emotions were put in a presentation for a good memory..

When I was in high school, I played the piano. When I was in a down mood or mad about something, I would sit down to the piano and start playing something very sad sounding but, about half way through, I would find myself playing something up beat and happy. Later, as an adult, I was in a very dark place in my life. When I was feeling desperate and alone and felt no one knew what I was feeling, I would write very dark poetry. When I was finished writing, I was feeling better. I don't write anymore. Now, when I want to work but, can't come up with a good design, I will come on line and chat with people. Someone may say something or, their avatar catches my attention and, again, I get an idea. So, I never really thought of it but, I guess sometimes we get inspiration from our own moods. Thanks for responding and have a great day.

Honestly, I think that we are all inspired by the same types of things. One thing may inspire one person more than others but, all in all, it seems life all around us is our inspiration. It is what we do with that inspiration that makes it unique.

I am a people watcher myself. Just sitting somewhere watching them go about their business or, on line, sitting back watching the way they interact with others. It is good for inspiration some days.
