Is there a "right" religion?

I am confused when it comes to religion. There are so many religions to choose from and so many different beliefs, how do you know that you are choosing the right path to God? Can you beleive in God and try to live your life doing what you know is the the right thing and not have to spend every Sunday in Church? Does a person who religiously goes to church on a regular basis deemed as being more religious or serving God the right way in order to go to Heaven? I was raised in a household with my mother being a Jehovahs Witness and my dad being a Baptist so I am all confused! I am in a point in my life where I want to dedicate my life to God, or atleast start venturing down that path, and I need to know what should I be looking for.

First of all don't worry so much about how and where you worship. I was raised a Catholic, and still consider myself to be a Catholic, but I have gone to the Baptist church in our town with my stepdaughter and her family quite a few times and I felt right at home there. I'm not a regular church goer and I believe that I have a personal relationship with God and with Jesus Christ so, no, I don't believe that it's necessary to sit in church every Sunday...but I do think it's spiritually nurturing and comforting. You should follow your own path and do what your heart tells you to do. If you want to check out some churches to possibly join, check them out, if not then don't. Your dedicatioln to God is inside of you so do what feels right for you.

I love watching Joel Osteen! He is so inspirational and so positive. I don't get to watch him too often but I always come away from his show feeling more empowered and happy. I also take time to pray every night but I have to confess that I don't find the time to read the Bible very often.

I can't say who is right or wrong but this is my opinion. I personally believe in Christianity, however I find it hard to believe that a million people could all be wrong, I kinda think that maybe some how all of the different religions some how used to fit together. I think that whatever you believe is what happens to you. I believe in God and I don't go to church, I want to just haven't found one like the one I used to go to, but I believe that it is what is in your heart that counts. You don't have to go to church to pray or to believe church just helps keep you where you want to be, it's easier to do anything with a support system and that is what church is. I would say if your not sure which religion to go with get some books on religions in the area you are looking at and see which one touches your heart the most. I questioned it myself and my youth pastor gave me a book to read and thats when I turned Christian it just grabbed me and effected me so much and I figured if just reading a book on faith and the religion could grab me so hard that there was a God and he was there too trying to get me to go to him. Good luck I hope you find what is right for you. Take care

I appreciate your input. I like how you said that you believe that church is just a support system. That makes perfect sense. It isnt easy doing the right thing and maybe being around those who have the same beliefs makes it easier. I am leaning towards Christianity but there are different religious groups who claim to be Christian so that makes another issue. I guess I will just have to experiment until I find a place to call "home". Thanks again!

You aer absolutly right there are a lot of groups out there that are different denominations of Christianity, I personaly went with a non denominational Christian church when I did go. The basic beliefs are pretty much the same it is just a matter of some are a little more strict than others. I say the most important thing to a church or group however you look at it is that they are supportive and non judgmental. The number one rule is to love your brother no matter what, and that is what is hard to find these days. People that do not judge you no matter what and are just there for you when you need them, that is hwat I look for. I also personally tend to like the more new age type thing I put it which is why I stuck with non denominational, they (or at least the church that I had found) takes the Bible as a guide. Obviosly some things that were considered a sin 2000 years ago or however long aren't the same thing anymore. In my opinion a good Church/ religion just has to have faith, believe in God and Jesus and except anyone and everyone with open arms no matter what, no whispers behind your back and no eye balling. Just love and be there and thats how I look at it.

Absolutely...Only a fool IMO follows the masses....Being religious and/or spiritual is a very personal thing so why should you follow others when the truth of the matter is ONLY YOU AND GOD know whats best for you.....

Religions and traditions will kill more people than all wars put together. You cant inherit the kingdom of God by practicing religion. You have to possess a personal relation with Christ. Religions are ritualistic, the traditional practice of doing something during worship is an act of religion. If an act of worship is not right with you, then that would be an inappropriate religion for you. We look for hope in any worship. What would be your hope?
