How long did you let your kids believe in santa? I know it is july but I bought a few xmas gifts today for later. Did you tell them or did they just find out?

My little girl is 8 and she thinks that there is no santa but she is not really sure. She says that there is not, but she is confused how the gifts get there Christmas morning. But I think she knows and just plays along because it is fun.

I am hoping my teens can keep their lips zip and not spill the beans to my little one. My older brother told me so it was no fun anymore!

I say let em believe as long as they want to believe. Christmas is magical, and kids lose that feeling all too soon. Coincidentally, all four of my children asked for the truth when they were in the 3rd grade. My youngest waited until well after Christmas, that year to ask. When they did ask, I told them the truth. When they were very little and asked a little differently, whether or not I believed in him, I said, "Well who else could manage to pull off this whole Christmas thing?" So when they were older and asked if he was real, I told them that he was not a man so much as a way to describe the spirit of giving, and being generous to each other. I teach third grade, and it seems to be a pivotal age. Many of my students still believed, and a handful of them were already very skeptical.

My older brother (5 years older) told me when I was 9 after getting in a fight with me a week before christmas. My parents tried to cover it up but I got curious and started sneeking around as the days grew closer to christmas. Though that year I found out that the big man wasnt coming down the chimney I still wrote santa letters every year after that leaving them at the fireplace not only for my younger brother but never wanting to forget how magical christmas is.
