Is your shopping list shorter than it used to be?

With the rising cost of commodities, I find myself making my shopping list as short as possible. I also learned to set priorities. I start my shopping list with the things that we really need at home like food, toiletries and other basic household needs. The next group on my shopping list are the things that we need but can wait to have until the next payday or something. Unfortunately, most items on the the next group on my list seldom really make it into the shopping cart... sigh... the prices of commodities these days are simply so high that I often do not have much money left after paying for the essential things.

I definately have a shorter list! I used to go to the store without a list and just grab what we wanted. Now, I have to make sure I have a list and make sure I don't stray to far from it. I get to get some "special" things every once in awhile, but not to often these days.

Yeah, I guess the financial crisis is taking a toll on all of us these days. I used to just pick up whatever I want when I go shopping but now I have to stick to my shopping list most of the time. The cost of living has gone up while income has gone done. Such a terrible thing, isn't it?

Yes I find that my shopping list is getting shorter by virtue of the fact that prices are increasing.Like you said I now have to prioritise and ensure that I get the essentials first and then luxury items or the things that I can do without. My list is really similar to yours food ,toiletries etc

Exactly! Our purchasing power have weakened considerably over the last few months and I doubt if most of us will recover anytime soon. The worsing global recession is pushing us to the limits these days.

We tend to shop around more, reason being is that because supermarkets are in competition with each other, they often have bargains, trying to outcut prices from another store, so we usually find out from the papers or television commercials where things are on offer and go there and we stockpile! It saves us a fortune by buying in bulk, making sure the dates are ok. Our list has become shorter in that we have stopped drinking coffee and coffee is expensive, because I do a lot of training at the gym I have cut out biscuits, chocolates and cakes and those items alone save money too!

oh yes, my list is shorter. i end up re-writing it at least twice before the day i go to the store..each time cutting things. and we are buying more store brands than before. which is a good way to help save some money, and for some things the taste is pretty much the same. but some store brand products are just awful lol!

I guess all of us are feeling the pinch nowadays. We have started cutting back on a lot of things at home too. Although cost cutting is not really bad if you only take out the uncessary things from your shopping list, the whole idea of cost cutting can become quite annoying when you have choose which of the important items on your list has to go.

I haven't had to cut back on anythin gyet, I have started using cupons and switch to cheaper brands but I sill usualy get everything I want on the list. I had to stop letting my sons go with me since they like to add so many htings to the cart.

I know what you mean. I usually take my little boy with me when I go shopping and he ends up putting a lot of unnecessary things into our shopping cart. Since I do not like to leave him with the babysitter, I always end up taking him along whenever I go out of the house to do some shopping.

hi, alindahaw.. Yes, my grocery list is shorter now because I have to cross out some junk foods (which is good) that I usually give my son as some sort of treat whenever he does something good ...Aside from that, I no longer stock some items and only buy what is necessary for at least til next payday.. Besides, prices are way up high than before, so my budget now is stricter..Instead of, let's say, buying a dozen sachets of shampoo, i now buy just half..We all have to tighten our belts because I think it's necessary just to be able to cope up with the sudden price increases...

Yes, it's getting tinier and tinier. The prices of everything go up ridiculously and I find that with the same amount of money, the goods that I get are getting smaller and smaller. To be honest, I am really not happy about it and that makes me not want to spend at all except on necessities.
