Television plays an important role in most people's life. Before the Internet was invented, people relied on the Television to be 'connected' to the World. Even now with Internet, many of us continued watching Television. For me, my most watched Channels are National Geographic, Animal Planet, Football Channel, ESPN and Cartoon Network. What about you? Compared to the past, the number of hours I spend watching Television is significantly lower. During my free days, I used to be able to sit in front of the Television for the entire day. (Yes, yes, I was a couch potato ) Now, I spend more time on my Laptop than my Television during my free days. Back to my question, the Longest Time I have been through without Watching Television was 5 days. It happened last year. I was on vacation and during the vacation, even though there's a Television in the hotel room, I did not turn it on at all. I just didn't feel like watching Television then. How about you? What is the Longest Time you have been through without Watching Television?)

A fortnight, I guess. That's the longest I've stayed in a place without television. So that should be it. It was in my native place, in my grandparents' home where we unfortunately had no television. In fact there was one, but it wasn't working. Otherwise, I don't remember living without a TV ever.

It was the occasion of my aunt's marriage and we were busy making arrangements for the wedding day. On nights, we used to time-pass playing board games like Chess, Snake & Ladders, Monopoly and other games like Housey, Cards etc. The family bonding and interaction was great as you mentioned. It was a lot fun even without TV as a large number of relatives had gathered for the special event after a gap of years.

I would put it in at one year. That was during my first year in NS. Training was tough! And there is no TV privileges when I was a recruit. Immediately after my first three months of BMT, it was to vocation training. Then onto platoon training three months after that. So tired out during the week that by the time I leave camp for home, I spend a good part of my weekend catching up on sleep, after my errands and chores at home of course. The occasional time I go out with friends are for drinks. And maybe a movie or two. But no TV. Too tired or busy to watch TV during the first year of my NS.

is the days of ordinary TV coming to an end? - Television!
during my exams days i stay in a lodge near the exam center and some times i get a room with no television and that's when i don't get to watch tv until the exam finishes. So last time i had to spend 6 days with out watching TV! And the only bing thing i missed was the french open final between Nadal and Fedrer! But these days i watch tv very rarely coz every thing i wanna hear and see is coming through internet. In internet we can watch any thing on demand, so its much more time efficient!

I was lucky. During my hostel days, my neighbor had a television and whenever there's something nice on TV, I'll knock at her door. I agree, Internet is so wonderful. I get to watch my favorite animes and read my favorite mangas as soon as it's released in Japan.

You've mentioned Singapore and my senses got active and I just had to comment. I'm planning to go there in Singapore to work for my own family's survival and for the fulfillment of our dreams. If you'd be so kind, could you please give me some pointers on how to get hired and surviving over there. The company I'm working with for almost four years now is planning to close shop until the end of this year; and hopefully, I'll be going there early next year with my husband's consent. I'd like to know how life is over there and basically, how much is the cost of living? Locally, life has been very tough even if my salary is above the minimum wage.

TV addict huh? Drama? I hope not Singapore dramas. Singapore dramas are getting from bad to worse. I really do not support Mediacorps. Also, I wonder who will pay MOBTV to watch channel 8 programmes??

I was never much for watching TV even before the computers came out. I watch even less now.as I spend more time on the computer. I also like to sit and read as it is more relaxing, to me, than watching TV. But when I do watch TV it is usually the news and/or certain programs that I like. I do like some sitcoms and some soap operas, but mostly not. I love to watch Reba, I think that show is very funny. Oh, and Two and a Half Men, funny show. Also I like to watch shows like 60 minutes and 20/20, informative shows. I have only gone about a week without watching anything at all, and that was when I was away on holidays, too. The first thing I do when I get up in the morning is turn on the TV and put it on the weather channel. I always like to see what kind of day it is going to be so I can dress accordingly.

I hardly watch TV nowadays too. I rather spend my time in front of PC too. It seems like my TV set is giving way soon (hopefully not). It may be soon that I need to buy a new TV if not my parents will be bored.

The highest time was for 1 month. I was in my village, so there are no opportunity as electricity is absent there. It is clear to me now, after taking internet, I have lost my interest on television. I often use my free times on online. While I enjoyed cartoons in Cartoon Network, cricket in Espn or in Star sports, currently I use that time to play online games. I think internet is more addicting than television and in the last one month I watched television only for 40 hours maximum and 80% time only for watching news. I am now writing this post and at the same time television is running. A drama is running but I have no interest to go in television room right now. Happy day!

It has been months I have not watch any TV shows at my place since the lightning incidence. I manage to catch some shows when I am at my parent's place but don't have much choice though as my mum will always be the one holding the remote I am mostly with my laptop and online but missed the background noises from the TV and glimpses of shows to distract me at times. Now I have the radio on and catches updates on the internet, youtube, etc., pretty much used to it by now. I wonder has anyone gone crazy or cranky without a TV for this long. I sure would without my laptop and the internet Cheers and have a good weekend.

I have to say I don't like watching TV.And when I was a senior high student, there were little time for me to watch it and my parents didn't allow me to watch at the same time.So the longest time I have been through without TV would be half a year or more The main reason that I don't like it is,there aren't many good programmes for me.Sometimes I'll choose some English programmes to watch. But my mum is a couch potato indeed!^_^She can't live without TV!

Hi Poogie, I don't know. I am not a TV freak or an anti-TV fanatic. Usually, I only watch TV if there are shows I wanna catch. Or, it just happens to be on. Or, it is my meal times and I have nothing better to co-do. So really, I don't know the answer to your questions. Take a break. Drink more water.

Like you, I also consider myself as a couch potato especially when I was still single. I could sit all day with my eyes glued to the television and my only breaktime would be eating and responding to the call of nature. But now that I'm already married and have a daughter, my priorities have changed and naturally, time for my personal enjoyment and leisure has dwindled, if not eliminated. Naturally, I have to attend to my duties as a wife and mom to my own family before anything else. I remember a time when I was really out of information and communication to the outside world. This was when my husband and I just got married. We both decided that I would stop from working as we are finding it difficult for me to bear a child. That time, I was in my late 20's and I was quite fearful that I might not be able to bear a child. I was out of job for more than a year and we stayed with my in-laws then. During those times, I made myself contented with writing short stories and listening to a transistor radio owned by them. There was still no electricity there back then, about five years ago. Occasionally, we would visit my parents in the same province but the trip would take about more than an hour so it was very rare that we would go travelling. Also, my husband prohibited me from doing some household chores so sometimes, he would be the one to wash our clothes or he would tell his younger siblings to do so.

I have been without television for about two years now. I did watch a few times when I was staying away from home in hotel rooms and someone's apartment but I soon got bored, switched off and turned on the radio, which I much prefer. I use the internet and radio to keep up with what's happening in the world. I read books all the time and watch movies sometimes. I really don't miss the TV but I'm a bit sorry I won't be seeing the Olympic Games this year, as I would have liked to watch some of the events. I can catch up with them on radio and on websites so I'm not too bothered. I really don't have any time for watching now, even if I had a television. I used to spend a lot of time watching TV and I think I have seen enough of it now to last me my lifetime.
