is chocolates bad for dogs?

i was told that i should not let my dog take in any chocolates or sweets for it is fatal for them. is this true? is there any scientific explanation for this? i don't want to harm my dogs.

you should never feed a dog chocolate. even the occasional small amount of chocolate is harmful, as the toxins accumulate in the body, and it can take just a small amount to make your dog very ill or even kill them.

What Galena says goes along the lines of what I heard. They basically can't process something in the chocolate it's like a poison that they can never get rid of if they have too much they die from it. You basically cannot let your dog eat any chocolate.

My understanding is that chocolate can be harmful to your dog(s). I do not know the scientific explanation for this. I also heard that raisins or grapes can be harmful as well.

Chocolate can be very bad for dogs because of the toxins. My dog recently ate some bakers chocolate from my garbage and I had to call the vet right away! Luckily he is fine because he didn't eat enough to harm him. Some dogs can react worse than others to chocolate. Apparently onions are bad for dogs too.
