If you are not carriying a cell phone with you, check with yur destination country to see if international calling cards are available there. Always carry your cell phone with you on your person, not in a purse or briefcase. Log in other companion's number and your important home state contacts on your cell phone. You give some great travel advice. However I like to carry my passport in my money belt hidden under my clothing. I can't imagine leaving it behind somewhere by mistake and I have even taken it snorkeling when it was around my waist in my swim safe belt. If going to a dangerous place where mugging is known to happen quite often I hide my money in about five different places. Two Canadian guys put money in the back pocket of their jeans. They got it stolen at the railway station in Brasov, Romania. Never wander alone along deserted beaches, this is something that I learned in the Maldives. I wish you safe and happy travels.
