Do you like your doctor?

I had another doctor visit this morning and realized how lucky I am to really like my doctor. I have had doctors that I haven't liked and I wont go back to them. Years ago I had a wonderful doctor. He had a great sense of humor, listened to what I said and talked to me like a person. He eventually moved away and I had to find another doctor. I went to one of his associates in the same office and he treated me like I was an imbicle so I never went back to him. I looked around for a while and couldn't find anyone that I liked so eventually I got to where I am now, but with a different doctor. I never saw the doctor that I was "assigned" to and was about to switch again because I didn't care for any of the ones that I was seeing. Then I got the doctor I have now. She's wonderful! Great sense of humor, listens to me, talks to me like a normal person. I'm so glad I didn't have to go looking elsewhere! With different medical plans any more, you don't seem to have as much of a choice who your doctor is. Have you ever been "stuck" with a doctor you just really didn't like at all?

I'm not real big on doctors either. I don't go to them unless I really have to, that's why I think it's important to have one you like. Sounds like you have a "keeper".

Oh, I have left a doctors office without being seen because I've had to wait hours past my "appointment"! I don't think I've had to wait for this doctor more than 5 minutes.

I too have a female doctor. She is so busy sometimes she is a little air headed. She is very loving an caring. I was so sick one time and she kept putting her hand on me and trying to comfort me. That was the last thing I needed but she cared so I did not have the heart to tell her. I was having vertigo attacks and was in the process of spinning around with the dizzies and vomiting. She wanted to pat me and rub my back while I heaved. It is not good to have your eyes rolling around in your head and someone patting you. I did not have the nerve to tell her to stop. I was to sick

That's so hard when someone's doing something that makes you feel worse, but they are trying to provide comfort. It does sound like you have faith in her and like her personality also. That's very important.

I was just pondering the thought that there are so many rich doctors in this world. It struck me that this must be a sick, sick world.

Oh, that's pretty punny! I think most doctors make too much money, but I tell ya, it's not something I'd want to do for a living...

I think most of the doctors I have had I would describe as OK. They were (are) reasonably competent professionals, I've never had a doctor I was thrilled with or one that I hated. I just liked them well enought to have a decent doctor patient relationship with them. I am in a health study now, and there is a very young doctor (probably a resident) assigned. She is nice but I'm wondring who assigned her to this study becasue she doesnt seem to know alot about what she is treating.

I don't go to the doctor often. Before last week, it had been well over a year, maybe two. I don't go unless I absolutely have to so I like to have someone that's pleasant to be around.

I do happen to like the GP I am registered with. He is probably in his late 30's and he is what I class all GPs should be like - interested in the patient as a person, understanding and does not rush you. Unfortunately where I stay, if you need to see a Doctor you don't always manage to see your own and have to be slotted in with another one in the practice. I don't like this because the rest of them in the surgery have a terrible attitude. Your name is called over a tannoy to tell you which room to go to. You go in and they stare at their computer screen, giving you a quick glance to ask why you've come in today. You then explain to them what the problem is and before you know it, they've printed out a prescription and said if it doesn't get better in a few days come back.... My own GP, always comes out to the waiting room and greets you with a warm smile and a handshake. You follow him through and he says take a seat and then he sits down and leans forward to face you and asks you how you are today. He listens to everything you say, keeping eye contact with you the whole time and nodding in understanding. He then gives his opinion but asks you how you feel about it - so in effect involves you in the decision on what the best plan of action is. He then prints out the prescription, tells you to take care and shakes your hand as you leave. All in all, you leave feeling much better and secure that he knows exactly what you tried to tell him. To become a GP is not something you just fall into by mistake. I believe that it is something you you have to really want. To be a good GP, you need to have a need to help people and be interested in the person and not just the illness. Treating patients like numbers and illnesses is NOT the way to become a good Doctor. GP's HAVE to accept that people are usually scared about what is wrong with them and what might happen to them. They are needing reassurance that everything will be okay and if it turns out to be something nasty that they will be well looked after. I actually find when I take my two dogs to the Vets that the vets are more friendly to the animals than most Doctors are to their patients. Anyway....all that being said, I am lucky that the GP I am registered with is one of the good guys!!

Cool! It sounds like you have a wonderful doctor. Some times I do have to see one of the other doctors in our group, but that doesn't happen often. I know what you mean about doctors treating us like just another number. Some go into the profession because they'll make a lot of money, some (the good ones) because they want to help people.

I like our doctors for the most part. They are good with the kids. I've rarely had to go for myself though, it's usually just something for the kids. The only thing that bothered me is they don't seem to know us. For example, I had taken my daughter in to see Kate. When we were in there we decided my son might have the same thing so she said to bring him in later and that if no one else could see him she would. Well we ended up seeing someone else but as we were leaving we passed Kate in the hallway. She smiled hello but it was like she was just being polite, she didn't seem to remember who I was or the fact that my baby could possibly have a bad illness. That bothered me. I realise they see tons of patients and I wouldn't expect her to remember me exactly if it had been a few weeks or months, but this was just like 4 hours from the last time I had seen her. But they are the ones with the best reputations in town so I guess I'll just stay where I'm at.

I know sometimes it does just seem like we're a number and that's it. They do see so many people in such a short time.

I have met up with few doctors because I see doctor in different clinic most of the times. I do not have a panel doctor. Most of the time I do not like the doctor very much, they did not give me the effective medicine. I feel like they are just simply hear how do I feel and gave prescription from there.

That is one of the difficulties when you aren't able to see the same doctor all the time. Hopefully you're usually healthy and don't have to deal with it all the time.
