Soul? Spirit?

What is your definition of the soul? What about spirit? Do these two words have the same basic meaning or understanding? These questions were sparked after a bible study today. If you can, post a scripture to back up your definition. I'd like to see how many different responses this brings about, or if most translations and denominations interpret similar meanings. Thanks!

Soul and spirit can be interchangeable. In many instances they mean life or breath. check out this site. bible word studies can be interesting because the meaning of those old English words have changed so much over the last 400 years just as they continue to change today. When doing a bible study we have to keep that in mind. http://www.pickle-publishing.com/papers/soul-and-spirit.htm

Thank you for your response. But that site just added more confusion for me. Not to mention the majority of the verses I had in mind were not even mentioned...and that is thee way it seems to go with such sites, books, and other references.
