We had a big party for his first, and I don't want to do that again. I was thinking just a small party, but there's only one other child around his age. I thought maybe just have a private party at home, with just us, but I wanted to do a little more than that. Is there an in between?
What did you do for your child's second birthday? What other ideas can you think of?

I am sure that I had a big celebration for my kids 2nd birthdays since I still have them and they are now teenagers.
Why don't you have the family over and if you want the other child his age, you can invite him and his parents. Have cake and ice cream and family....your child will love it.

Problem is, just family is a big party- it's about 40 people with just my family and my husband's.

We did a family party, close friends and relatives. Nothing big, just a little food, and cake and ice cream at the house. Thank you so much for the best response.

Hi,my friend has a two year old son,and like you she chose to have a big celebration for his first birthday, but when it came to his second she saw it as a little pointless to have another large gathering,so she just invited a few of his little pals, and some relatives, she had the party at her home, and she also had a barbecue for the adults.
