I think reading to children or people in the hospital is always a nice idea. It is easy to think about animals or things that are right in front of us like homelessness. The things people don't see are often needed more, such as older people who are stuck at home and they need visits and/or meals made for them. It is often so prevalent but goes unnoticed because it is behind closed doors. Of course, as you make a difference in this, your reward won't be as noticed by the world. But your help could mean the world to those people!

If you like to coordinate projects, I would suggest starting a local volunteer center in your town. You can call all of the social service and community agencies in town and see what their volunteer needs are. Then, compile a list of the opportunities. You could meet with prospective volunteers and help them find opportunities that fit their interests and skills. This would be a way to make a real difference!

The schools everywhere are in need of volunteers. So are libraries. Are there homeless people there who need food?
