There are gift soaps and guest soaps that are in shapes of roses and many other novelty shapes. there are perfumed soaps and novelty scents. there are fancy pumps to match your decor that you buy to refill. there are pumps with jungle themes or underwater themes that are disposable. there are big bars of soap that you cut with a knife and see the green stripes. there's unscented soap. but for many people it is down to a category of two choices. a bar of soap or a soap pump? which do you prefer?

I prefer pumps. There's much less mess, and I can use the side of my wrist to pump when my hands are dirty. Bar soap gets gooey and makes a mess in the soap dish. There are some really pretty ones in both styles, and I've found a lot of the nicest ones to be at the dollar store -- a definite plus! There are 3 bathrooms in my house. Guests most often use the one on the first floor, of course, soI have both pump and bar soap in there. In addition to decorated guest towels, I put out beautiful paper guest towels. Nobody ever seems to use the paper ones, though. They're just part of the decor.

I like the soap pump myself. A bar of soap just seems dirty to me ever since I took a microbiology course. We cultured microbes growing on soap bars from our houses. I can't believe I actually used to put that stuff on my face. A soap pump is way more sanitary. If you do like bar soap, change it frequently and also change your wash cloth to avoid the microbes!

some very good points i wish more people would consider. i often felt they were holding on to germs. i like the pump when there are multi users. happy lathering.

It depends which sink it is. I prefer a bar of soap by the bathroom sink, a pump soap by the kitchen sink and definitely shower gel in the shower.
