Beijing Olympics and the number eight

Beijing Olympics 2008 - Is it coincidence or good planning that the games start at 8pm on 08/08/08?

It's well known that the Chinese regard the number eight (8) as very auspicious and lucky. How many people realise that the Beijing Olympics will be officially opened at 8pm (local time) on the eighth day of the eighth month of 2008? That's 08/08/08. Was this done deliberately or just a massive piece of 'luck'?

Wow, that is definitely a coincidence, I can't see it being luck to be honest because the chances of it happening in that way is very very high! I think the eight month is easy but at 8pm? Well they chose that time. But it is weird I have to admit. 8 is my lucky number too but that's no coincidence! Although 8 has never been lucky for me I hope it's far luckier for the Chinese!

Hello, MichaelJay. I didn't know that Chinese thought that eight is a lucky number. I don't believe in these things, but it is still interesting to know about what you have just said. Now, I don't know if they made it on purpose. Sounds like, doesn't it? After all, there couldn't be one more eight in there... Unless if they start it at 8:08 pm. Interesting! You are a good observer, I would have never pointed this out. Respectfully, Munhozmib.

the chinese are very fond of feng shui and of course they scheduled the olympics accordingly to what is the lucky day and time and they are very particular with time also so they might have scheduled the time on purpose. i just hope that they will have a lucky day during olympcs. honestly, if they have God they do not need luck at all.
