Worst Travel Experience

Which is your worst traveling experience? which mode of travel (air, rail, road) do you prefer and why? I prefer to travel by Train the most. The reason being that its long enough to enjoy the experience and there is enough freedom to move around in a train. In airplane and buses you have to be seated at one place most of the times and have very limited freedom. My worst traveling experience too was in a train when due to some unavoidable circumstance the train had to be halted in the middle of nowhere for 4 hours in the afternoon of summer. There was no water in the train as all water was used up by other passengers. Even drinking water was not available. I could see small children crying and parents all irritated. But no one could really do anything about it. the nearest railway station was 16 KM away. ONce we reached the station we made sure we bought enough water in case anything like this happens again. And now whenever I travel in train I am prepared in advance for such eventualities.

One travel experience I will never forget was aboard a barge. I was on coverage and the fast-track vessel we were supposed to be in got derailed somehow. We were catching an event in a nearby province and had to get there as fast as possible. What made matters worse was the inclement weather. So they dumped us on a barge, cramped like sardines with old veterans so we had to be hustled to the lower deck, closer to sea, where there were only plastic sacks that served as awnings. We had plastic chairs on hand and we tried to get some shuteye, however impossible, because we were so tired. Lo and behold, I remember waking up because this huge wave just slapped on the side of the barge and showered us all.

My favorite form of transport is train. During the day I look out of the window at the passing scenery and during the night I fall asleep quickly in a comfortable compartment. My train arrived at midnight, five hours late so Amtrak gave me a free taxi for half an hours journey to my accommodation. I had a bumpy flight to Tunisia in which I got terrible ear pain and was sick. I had a boat trip from Sumatra to Malaysia when I couldn't stop being sick. I think the flight to Tunisia was the worst travel experience that I have had. Being halted in the middle of nowhere sounds awful. Carrying water is a great idea, on a over heated train they offered passengers a free tea or coffee.

I also prefer the train. It is more relaxing to me than a cramped airplane. I also like the fact that you can see more while you travel.

I like traveling to Spain or some other warm country so I kinda have to use airplane if I want to get there in less than a week... And my worst traveling experience must be when I was on Spain with my family. First I had a fever of about 39 celsius and then after a few days all the others got it too. When I finally wasn't sick anymore, I got the fever back in no time from the others and so on. 2 weeks in Spain, not even 1 full day for anyone not to be ill... Yippee.
