Hi all I seem to have a bit off a problem.. Let me first explain it, I can solve it myself, but it is always better to have some extra opinions.. About a week ago my pc suddenly slowed down, I mean really slow, booting took me 5 minutes, before only 5-15 seconds, now the problem was my virusscan (Norton was it I think), it deleted an important file, so I formatted my harddrive and reinstalled windows. Then I had to take another virusscan, a friend advised me Avast Free edition. So I installed it and not very happy with it.. Was to slow for me.. So I now I am looking for another good, preferably free virusscan.. Does any of you know such a virusscan ? Please post it, if you can suply a link, thanks a lot !!

hmm..that had happened to me too...in my case it will never log me in... ok now, coming to the point...i will suggest Avira AntiVIR - one of the best freeware i have ever used...its lighter than any other anti-virus software and it will take a low RAM.. or if you dont mind about the RAM,then AVG 8 is the best....it detects almost all the viruses, but onlu defect in using AVG is it will detect all the .exe files as viruses(even firewall.exe! and some system files..!!)... and sometimes it automatically deletes the files and it really annoys the user...if this is not a problem for you, stick with AVG...o But i recommend Avira AntiVIR/// Thanks, Sri

Hi, I personally use avast! because it is also free, and very good actually. It doesn't slow the computer and it detects all kinds of viruses. I like it because it can do a full system scan even before the windows starts and it is my weapon of choice against the viruses!

it is because you are having so much of programs running in your computer start up, u can change that by moving in to regedit in your run program.

nah had nothing to do with that.. It was a problem with the virusscan.. Now I run the same problems (without virusscan) and it is faster then ever :)

I don't care for the free virus-scan programs that are out there but the best as far as far as I have herd is AVG and yes it is free. I personally use McAfee I like Norton but Norton uses up the computer resources.

If you have more than one virus checker going at once then your PC will crawl. Norton I found too intrusive. Kerspasky won a trial in a pc magazine as being the best. Personally I use AVG v8.0 which I find very good and also free.

I'm using bitdefender 10 and it doesn't make my computer slow down. It's easy to use and rated as the best antivirus software around. There's a free version available for download at www.bitdefender.com. I also tried kaspersky once but it's just annoying when it detects a virus attack. It gives a loud squeaky noise when it does that. I hope this will help!

I have personally tried many antiviruses, Norton, Macafee, Avira, Avast, AVG, Kapersky, TrendMicro but according to me the best antivirus is AVG. It is abolutely free and it can detect more viruses than any other antivirus. And if you buy it then there is an inclusion of antispyware along with the antivirus too.
