cream of chicken soup

Does anyone have an idea how to make this from scratch? Or any other 'cream of' soups, for that matter. I have a recipe for pot pie that calls for cream of chicken soup and chicken broth, both of which are very high in sodium. Any ideas how to substitute the cream of chicken for something lower in sodium that will be similar? Thanks

I've checked a few sites, I can't remember which ones, but I didn't find anything. I'm thinking maybe whole milk or heavy cream, but I'm not daring enough to just do it.

Cream of.. soups are basically white sauces with flavors and bits of other things added. To start, put a couple of tablespoons of oil or other fat in a skillet and add 2 tablespoons of flour and brown it. Then add two cups of milk (or cream!) and stir until it's thick... just like milk gravy. Then add mushrooms, chopped chicken, or whatever. This is a medium cream soup. For thicker, use more oil and flour, for thinner, use less.

Hope that you don't mind getting an answer from a guy who loves to cook! :) I frequently make a lot of sauces from scratch for meats, soups, vegetables and stews, so I often seek out and study resources! :) Here are some great recipes from Cooks.com that will get you going in the right direction: http://scour.com/view/result/?URL=http://www.cooks.com/rec/search/0,1-00,creamed_soups,FF.html And some cooking humour to start you day with a smile! :) 10. Your family automatically heads for the table every time they hear a fire siren 9. Your kids know what "peas porridge in a pot nine days old" tastes like. 8. Your son goes outside to make mud pies, the rest of the family grabs forks and follows him. 7. Your kids favorite drink is Alka-Seltzer. 6. You have to buy 25 pounds of dog food twice a week for your toy poodle. 5. Your kids got even with the neighborhood bully by inviting him over for dinner. 4. Your kids got suspended from school for trying to smuggle toxic waste in their lunch bags. 3. Your husband refers to the smoke detector as the oven timer. 2. No matter what you do to it, the gravy still turns bright purple. ... and the Number 1 Sign You're A Lousy Cook: 1. You burned the house down trying to make jelly. Have a great day! :)

I don't mind a guy's input at all! I love to cook, too, and it's always better from scratch. I tried the link and the page was blank. Can you copy and paste the recipe here? Great list-- that was me about 6 years ago, but I've learned to cook since then, and I don't mind saying, I think I'm pretty good at it.
