I am an avid coffee drinker, or caffieneaholic if you prefer. But I have never bought coffee from any of this type of store(s). There is a Starbucks a mile and a half away that is closing here. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Check the News online-Starbucks has had a rethink on how it does business, pehaps having over stretched itself with the number of outlets that it has open, and taking too much away from the coffee side of things and customer service, instead promoting the merchandising and music that have been becoming over emphasised..they've decided on a rethink and to get back to the core of the business,ie,selling coffee to people, prioritising customer interaction etc..I read that Some outlets are to close as a result of some cutbacks..

I do understand that they may have been a little too overly focussed on their music sales and not enough on the customer service side & coffee sales side. Thanks for responding!

They are closing a few non-franchised stores. List is on the website. None of the ones by me are closing. In fact one more just opened 2 weeks ago. Now there are 4 within a 5 minute drive!

Wow that is amazing that you have so many so close by. Are you in a bigger city?

Not really. I moved to an area that is in a period of growth. The area we moved from was actually a lot more populated and there were 2 Starbucks within 5 minutes driving distance. Here the population is a bit more spread out so, even though all the Starbucks are close by to me they really service different groups of people. Keep in mind too, there are other local only coffee houses that are near by to. So I'd bet within a 5 minutes drive there are at least 15 different coffee shops to go to.

Yes, quite a few of them are closing. Not any around here though. We have three in a 30 mile radius, and they all are still open. I wonder if maybe they shouldn't have branched out in the chocolate items they are now selling in stores under the Starbucks brand. Maybe if they hadn't spent money on that, they could have kept the stores open, and their employees will still have jobs. But then again, I'm not into business, so maybe that wouldn't have helped anyway.

Hi there Pam! Who knows why they are closing! I am just really surprised! I have also heard that it started going down hill when they starting selling music, and lots of folks did not want to hear the mucis playing when they went in.. Who Knows! I just wish that they weren't closing so many. all those people loosing their jobs, it is just really sad. Thanks for responding!

Yes, sadly they are closing the ones that have just opened in the last 1-2 years... but that doesn't necessarily mean your starbucks will go away. It just depends on the city. Bigger cities are closing them because they have so many around town, a smaller city will probably keep theirs open if they only have one. They are just running into issues with other places such as mcdonalds who are now serving mixed drinks for much cheaper. They are a lot cheaper but not nearly as good as starbucks.
